We were excited to use the Good Neighbor Community Funding to give back to Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital, Navicent Health for the Ferst Reader Program. Here is a small article about the program! #GoodNeighbor #OurStateFarm FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 30, 2020 TYLER LANDRESS AGENCY, STATE FARM DONATES TO BEVERLY KNIGHT OLSON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL... State Farm agent, Tyler Landress donated $500 through the Good Neighbor Community Fund to the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital. The funds will be used for the Ferst Reader program which provides children in the Neonatal Development Follow-up Clinic a free book each month until they reach the age of five. The Neonatal Developmental Follow- up clinic (NDFC) serves infants that are born in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care unit at an early gestation, (under 30 weeks), extremely low birth weight, have neurological issues, or other identified risk factors. These infants are at an increased risk for developmental delays. The NDFC sees these infants for at least two years to screen for developmental delays, intervene with appropriate referrals, and the coordination of any needed services. One of the most important developmental interventions for these infants is to foster parents engaging with the infant, which aligns with the Little Giraffe Foundation’s mission to support the bonding between parents and children cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We want parents to understand how important it is talk to their infant, and read to them at an early age. The research supports that the more words a child hears by the age of 3, the more words they will say. The single most significant factor influencing a child’s early education success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school, said Carla Morton, RN, NP Neonatal Outreach Coordinator. We are so very grateful for Mr. Landress’s support as well as the support of State Farm.
