One of the toughest weeds to deal with this time of year is a cool-season grassy weed called POA Annua (white seed heads.) It can be prevented in most lawns by applying pre-emergent in late August/early September. However, there are some lawns that get it no matter how much pre-emergent is applied before it germinates. This is because some strains have developed a resistance to most pre-emergent products on the market. Because it’s a cool season weed, the heat will kill it off within the next couple of weeks.
