Are you looking to "ELEVATE" your relationship with your partner? Wherever you are in your relationship, let us help you get to the next level! Crisp County University of Georgia (UGA) Extension Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) and UGA Extension Ware County are teaming up to provide "ELEVATE" - a free relationship series for committed couples (married or unmarried) in Crisp and surrounding counties. As part of a state-wide grant team! The next Crisp County Led Program begins... July 29th and the next State Let Program begins June 7th or July 10th! Fill out the interest form for more details. This series has found to positively influence changes in couples' behavior and overall relationship quality. According to a former ELEVATE participant, the program experience "saved our marriage." Another participant said they "learned how to control my emotions and value my partner as well as myself. I'm going to use what I learned in this class to keep my relationship going and improving." Each session will engage couples in fun activities to learn skills to manage stress better, strengthen their connection with each other, deal with differences in healthy ways, and elevate their relationships' quality. In addition to these skills, couples can also earn up to $350 in e-gift cards for attending the series and other incentives along the way. It "pays" to ELEVATE your relationship! Anyone out there ever been upset or impatient with their child? It's a normal part of being a parent, but how we handle it can either hurt our children or teach... them! Dr. Wally suggests... "A Great Idea 'We can’t help feeling angry or upset with our children from time to time, but, as a rule, it’s not a good idea to discipline your children when you’re mad or distressed. Your anger may be perfectly legitimatebut you’ll exercise better judgment as a parent if you’ll calm down and wait for your anger to subside a bit.' (Psychologist Laurence Steinberg, in his book The 10 Basic Principles of Good Parenting, p. 26) In Other Words Parenting often combines life’s frustrations with childish mistakes. It’s perfectly natural to get angry, but it’s not very helpful. We will be more effective if we take time to calm down before we respond to our children’s misdeeds. How This Applies to You The next time you feel like exploding with your child, take a break. Maybe you ask the child to go to their room while you collect your thoughts. Find a peaceful place. Take some deep breaths. Think about your child’s point of view. Consider what will help them learn. The key is not to make the child sorry but to help them live better lives." #drdaveschramm #safetysatisfactionconnection #wallywednesdaywisdom #parenting #parentingtips #parentinghacks #parentingadvice #parenting101 #parentinghelp

What gets in the way of you listening with an open heart? Too often, instead of trying to truly understand others, we are distracted or defensive, or we're thin...king of what to say in reply. Learning to listen with an open heart -- especially to our spouse and children -- can start with developing an awareness of how we're CURRENTLY listening. So my tip today is to slow down a little in those interactions and just NOTICE what's going on for you mentally, emotionally, and even physically when others are trying to talk to you. Genuinely listening takes work, humility, and a willingness to be vulnerable. We're not always going to like what others say! But as we give them (and ourselves!) the gift of open-hearted listening, we'll be better able to solve problems, show compassion, avoid escalating conflict, and nourish positive connections!! How do you think open-hearted listening can be a gift to others AND to ourselves? Comment below!
