(Monday January 20, 2020, 2-4 ...PM) Friends of Gospel Pilgrim is a student service organization dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery, a historic African American Cemetery in Athens. This organization strives to provide for the restoration of Gospel Pilgrim and by doing so bring together the UGA and Athens community in preservation of our shared past. Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery was founded in 1882 as a cemetery for African Americans in the 216th general militia district, Athens, Georgia area. Nine acres in size, it contains an estimated 3,500, mostly unmarked, graves. Address: 530 Fourth Street, Athens GA 30601 and parking can be found at the church just up the street from the cemetery.
