When Erick and his family came to America he struggled to hear, making it difficult to learn to speak. Once he received the hearing aids he needed, he quickly learned both Spanish and English and now has goals of helping other children like him. He says, "When I was eight years old, Dr. Gloria Garner, Senior Audiologist at University’s Speech and Hearing Center, helped me to get my first hearing aids. My newest hearing aids help me to listen and to hear better at school and t...o talk to my parents at home. I am a soccer player and they help me on the field to hear my teammates. In the future, I am thinking about either becoming a landscaper or becoming a doctor of audiology like Dr. Garner to help other children to hear better. Help other kids like Erick by making a gift to the Speech and Hearing Fund on Giving Tuesday. Elizabella’s, whose sister Kaylen also received assistance from University Hospital’s Speech and Hearing Center, favorite color is purple, and when she was four she was fitted with two purple hearing aids! Her mother said that her hearing aids are helping her socially because she can communicate much better now. She is making improvements in her speech development and math skills. She loves to read and is becoming a better reader. When Elizabella grows up, she plans to become... a nurse or a doctor. Thankfully, Kaylen and Elizabella’s mother did not have to worry if her children would get the help they needed. Thanks to the generosity of people just like you, who had a gift to the Speech and Hearing Fund, we were able to assist both of these sisters get the hearing aids they needed. Making a gift is easy with our online giving page. Give the Gift of Hearing at www.universityhealth.org/charitable-giving/donate-now/ #GiveTheGiftOfHearing #GivingTuesday #GAgives #UHCF

The Knox Foundation is an incredible asset to our community, and especially to University Hospital. When COVID-19 arrived in our area, the Knox Foundation recognized a need and made a generous gift to University Health Care Foundation. This gift helped defray childcare costs for front-line healthcare workers and helps offset unforeseen capital expenditures ensuring University Hospital Summerville was ready to care for Covid-19 patients, giving University the only campus dedicated to the care of Covid-19 patients. #ThankYou #KnoxFoundation #COVID19 #UHCF #InsistOnTheBest #InsistOnUniversity #SaferThanEver
