The University of West Georgia Police Department would like to welcome our newest member Officer Nakia Lewis. Ofc. Lewis was sworn in this morning by Dr. Kelly. Ofc. Lewis is already a certified police officer and comes from the Riverdale Police Department where she served for 5 years. Ofc. Lewis received her Masters from UWG in 2018. Welcome to the Pack Ofc Lewis.

The University of West Georgia Police Department is proud to serve as a member of the Western Region Traffic Enforcement Network( WRTEN) which helps make our roadways safe for our students and community.

The officers at UWGPD protect and serve everyone on our campus with P.R.I.D.E. That service extends to our wildlife population on campus. Here we see Sgt True assisting a baby deer that was stuck at the batting cages at the Cole Baseball Field. Sgt True successfully reunited Mother and Baby without any injury.

UWGPD honors all of our Moms with joy, peace, and health on YOUR day. We especally wish Det/Sgt Ashley Gossage a Happy 1st Mother’s Day with her daughter Ava. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY FROM UWGPD

The University of West Georgia Police Department had the honor to attend a seminar hosted by the UWG Student Government and UWG’s Health and Counseling Services on the topic of human trafficking. Erica Mortonson from the Human Trafficking Task Force came and spoke to students about the danger of human trafficking and shared information and resources for helping someone they believe to be in danger from trafficking. #protectthepack #UWG

A Reunion Story About six and a half years ago, there was an accident on Maple Street in front of the UWG Alumni House. Ofc Chirs Gaddie was the first officer on the scene that day. The accident was severe, and the only survivor was a small baby boy. Today, Ofc Gaddie and the little child from that day- Tavarius Smith reunited for the first time since the accident. Travarius is almost seven years old and plays pee wee football. He wants to be a Teacher or a Police Officer. His favorite books are Dr. Suess. Ofc Gaddie and Travarius spent a little time together sitting behind the wheel of the patrol car. This day was special for both of them, where lasting friendships are made. Police work is a very stressful job, and we know today there was some solace found between the two of them.

Today was Doyle Folds last working day before his retirement of over 30 years of loyal, faithful public service to the University of West Georgia Police Department.
