September Note from the Executive Director: Well, the short sprint through COVID-19 we expected early this past spring has turned into a cross-country marathon.... This marathon was not on anyone’s calendar, but I am confident we will reach the finish line learning much about ourselves along the way. The Black Box Theater and CRCA offices remain closed to the public and we will continue to follow government and CDC guidelines for protecting the health and well-being of our patrons, artists, staff, and entire community. While we miss your smiling faces in person, we have been working hard to put those smiles back on your face as you go about your daily lives around Conyers with our Public Art Program. CRCA was awarded a Vibrant Communities Grant from Georgia Council for the Arts in the fall of 2019 to create a mural celebrating the history and culture of Conyers and Rockdale County. The Mural on the Green was completed in mid-July and is located on the Dockett Building at 941 S Main Street in Olde Town Conyers adjacent to the Olde Town Conyers Pavilion and Randal S. Mills City Center Park. The mural, designed by UGA’s Color the World Bright Mural team, is 70 feet long with the message Greetings from Conyers and depicts unique attributes and attractions throughout the Conyers-Rockdale community. If you haven’t seen it yet, please stop by and take a look or even bring the family and snap a few photos. Read the Press Release and see pictures as the mural is installed on our website. Our Public Art Program continued with the installation of a beautiful butterfly in the entryway of our building at 910 Center Street. Check out pictures in previous posts for some wonderful people posing in front of it. If you decide to come by and take your picture here, please tag us so we can see all your smiling faces too. The Beautiful Box Project now has four completed utility boxes around Conyers! The first, at the corner of Travis and Green Streets, depicts a train and Olde Town Conyers buildings. Find the link to the Rockdale Citizen article about it on our website. The second box featuring a beautiful fall forest scene is located at the corner of Parker and Flat Shoals Roads. The third utility box, completed last month, commemorates our veterans using our local Walk of Heroes as inspiration. It is located at the corner of West Avenue and Green Street. The most recently completed utility box celebrates small businesses and economic development in our community and is located at the corner of Milstead Avenue and Main Street. Please enjoy each of these bright spots of color as you are going about town. A large portion of our budget comes from theater rentals and concession sales. We are doing our best to reschedule as many shows and events as possible, but with the long-term closure of live performance venues it is just not possible. So, while we greatly appreciate your regular patronage during shows, we need our community’s support to get through this time when our theater is dark. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation in any amount by credit/debit card at https://conyersarts.org/donations/ or mail a check made out to CRCA to P.O. Box 852 Conyers, Ga 30012. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]. You can also support us by choosing CRCA as your Amazon Smile (https://smile.amazon.com/ch/58-1843450) and Kroger Plus charity (https://conyersarts.org/donations#krogerrewards). Please stay home and stay safe and healthy. We look forward to the night we can raise a glass and the stage lights with you again. Sincerely, Shelli Siebert
