2020 was a blur! For us it started well with packed screenings of @janus_films’ DASIES and @vinegarsyndrome’s TAMMY AND THE T-REX at @plazaatlanta. Our @deadlypreygallery art show on 3/13/20 happened right on the cusp of COVID shutdowns, and within a week we had closed down the inside of our store moving to a takeout-only model. We canceled events, attempted to navigate city, county, and state regulations, and began developing all new safety procedures to keep our employees a...nd customers safe, with essential help from @michelledixey and @stevedixey. The race to apply for government grants and loans was suddenly on, and paperwork alone became a second job. We started an online store selling more than double the merchandise of any previous year. New Blu-ray and DVD releases were scarce, and it felt as if we were reinventing our entire business and looking for new ways to stay relevant on a weekly basis. Plazadrome moved outdoors to the @plazaatlanta and @dadsgarageatl drive-ins and we had several successful screenings including DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, THE BLOB (1988), and CHOPPING MALL. Protests began, and as revenues dropped even more we moonlighted as a neighborhood hub to collect and distribute supplies to protesters. We reopened the inside of the store to masked customers on 10/1/20, and immediately saw an uptick in revenue. 2020 was both scary and invigorating, we’ve never worked harder or been prouder of what we provide to the community. In all sincerity, we couldn’t have made it through without the support of our loyal customers and friends. Thanks so much!
