Being personal trainers, we frequently come across situations in which people either... A) Don't warm-up at all B) Waste energy and time doing the wrong things at the wrong times or C) Know a lil' something about a proper warm-up! ... Look @devrooney going for a moderate intensity rowing sesh to begin her workout. In general, 5-10 minutes of light cardio prior to dynamic stretching facilitates bloodflow to those areas. A nice, full body movement like the rowing machine is perfect because it is low impact, but engages nearly every large joint in the body. What should you do after the light cardio? -Light dynamic stretching -Further activate muscle groups necessary for the lift you're about to perform with light weights or resistance bands -Begin working the movement itself through warm-up sets to your working weight -Enter your working sets like a true VIKING!!! #feedyourinnerviking #warmup #workouttips #VikingStrengthNutrition #TrainLikeAViking #CleanEating #EatWell #FitnessMotivation #Empower #Strong #HealthyFood #Training #Powerlifting #WeightLifting #Goals #Gains #Muscle #WorkHard #PlayHard #Nutrition #CoachGoals #StartStrong #FrothGang #PowerLifting #Fitness #Vikings #Nutritioncoach #Noexcuses #workout #motivation

Macros What are they and why are you hearing about them all the time? Macro counting has created quite the buzz in the fitness community, and with good reason. We remember when IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) first came out. We were so excited to see people starting to learn about the important components that make up food instead of looking solely at a calorie count. So, what are macros (macronutrients)? Protein, Carbs, and Fat. ... Each individual has their own optimal ratio of these 3 components of food to optimize body composition and performance, whether it’s in life or in the gym. Now...micros. This is where people tend to get a little more lost. Micronutrients are all those little vitamins and minerals that we get from food. Fruits and veggies are known for being rich in micronutrients. This is an important aspect of a well rounded diet. While one can technically get all the macros they need from eating a diet without fruits and veggies, it is likely that would lead to vitamin deficiencies that could be remedied by eating the right combo of fruits and veggies and other foods rich in micronutrients. Want to learn more about nutrition, macros and micros? Visit us at Viking Strength Sports on February 13th, 12:00pm for a FREE seminar on Nutrition Basics. https://www.facebook.com/events/323889122294915 #feedyourinnerviking #micronutrients #foodisfuel #macros #organic #VikingStrengthNutrition #TrainLikeAViking #CleanEating #EatWell #FitnessMotivation #Empower #Strong #HealthyFood #Training #Powerlifting #WeightLifting #Goals #Gains #Muscle #WorkHard #PlayHard #Nutrition #CoachGoals #StartStrong #FrothGang #PowerLifting #Fitness #Vikings #Nutritioncoach #Noexcuses

In the fitness industry it is common to see mannnnny different opinions on the consumption of carbohydrates. When should you eat them? What kinds should you eat? Wait...there are different kinds of carbs?! Should you eat them at all?! We want to eliminate some of this confusion. Research shows us that not only are carbs good for you, they are necessary for optimal cognitive function and physical performance. Do you find yourself in a mental fog when trying to focus?Do you f...ind yourself short on energy during your workouts? These are two signs that you may not be consuming enough carbs throughout the day and/or prior to a training session. Our bodies feed on available glycogen stores (which come from carbs) to push through training sessions. This is why it is common to see people eating simple, fast-acting carbs prior to or during training (take a banana, for example). The amount and type of carbs depends on your lifestyle, goals, metabolism and overall health. If you want to get this ratio right, we suggest seeing a registered dietician or a sports nutritionist. The take-away? CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY.
