Meter vs. Meter Base What's the Difference? Your meter is the round device that measures how much electricity your home is using. It belongs to your power company and it is how they determine your usage. ... The meter base is the rectangular metal box attached to your home that houses the meter. This belongs to you and you are responsible for any repairs to it. Why this Matters: Your power company may require that you change your meter base at some point. Over time, connections can become loose or other damage can occur to the meter base that can potentially impair the meter itself if not corrected. If your meter base has been damaged or if your power company advises you to replace it, please contact a licensed electrician like Voltz to assist you. We give FREE estimates! How do I reset a tripped circuit breaker? Open your electrical panel and look for a breaker that is in between the "ON" and "OFF" position. Sometimes, there is a color indicator that will help you find the tripped breaker. To reset, move the breaker to the "OFF" position and then move it all the way to the "ON" position. Power should be restored to the circuit. Always be mindful that you are not overloading the circuit by using too many appliances at once. ... If you have tried these steps and your circuit breaker will not reset, contact Voltz for assistance @ (706) 738-0378.

What is the difference between a fuse and a breaker? Last week, we talked about what a circuit breaker is and what it does. But what if you have fuses instead? Both essentially have the same function of protecting an overloaded circuit by stopping the flow of the electrical current, but if a fuse blows, it needs to be replaced altogether whereas a circuit breaker can simply be reset and re-used multiple times.... Fuse boxes pose more of a fire hazard due to their age and outdated technology. A lot of older homes still have them and many homeowners choose to upgrade to a breaker panel. For more information on breakers, upgrading your panel or to schedule a free estimate, call Voltz @ (706) 738-0378 or visit us at voltz99.com
