Hart Town Environs, a new book just out in August would make a great Christmas gift. It is available at Barnesandnobel.com, walmart.com and amazon.com. Below ar...e photos of artifacts found in the summer of 2016, when members of VRAHS had permission to metal detect. These "finds" have just been unpacked, cleaned and are ready for display. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/hart-town-envi/1137512645 See more

Monument in Draketown has some issues. This 15 foot white, marble obelisk monument with the thunderball sphere at the top, which was dedicated to Alice Stewart,... the first woman martyr of prohibition, has foundation problems. Not bad. We are just tempted to ignore that the water from the driveway and road has compromised the concrete and dirt underneath on the right front and back corner at the base. Looks like it is sitting up in the air, slightly. It will take a long time for water to wash enough to cause the monument problems. Looks like water has washed around the base. A group of us from the historical society went up this morning to take photos and evaluate. We think some concrete added to the right front and back corners will help any future problems. We also think a dump-truck load of soil, 1/2 in front and 1/2 to the right side will stop further erosion at the base. Just sharing. We are working on this. PM ideas or offers to help. Thanks.

Today, the Villa Rica Area Historical Society had our first clean up day at Old Bethel Cemetery in Temple! We got a large area of briars cleared away from about twelve fieldstones. Top photo from April of this year and bottom photo was after today.
