Congrats to C/ Hamer and C/ Jaramillo for placing in the What a Difference a Day Makes 5K!
It’s November; keep pushing through the rest of the semester y’all! But while you’re taking a break from studying to scroll FB, get to know these Field Training Preparation cadets, C/ Kempton from Bainbridge, GA and C/ De Oleo from Stafford, VA! C/ Kempton is pursuing his degree in marketing with hopes of becoming a pilot or TACP officer. When asked why he joined AFROTC, he said he’s always had a calling to serve in the military, and I had bigger dreams that went past the bo...rders of my small town. In his spare time, C/ Kempton loves to exercise, go diving, play Xbox, go to the shooting range, work on cars, and do anything that requires a challenge. C/ De Oleo is working on his degree in criminal justice with hopes of becoming a pilot or working with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He says he joined AFROTC because both of my parents served in the USAF and I wanted to follow their footsteps, but they encouraged me to take a step beyond enlistment. Also, MCJROTC (pictured) pushed me towards it as well. In his free time, C/ De Oleo likes to lift weights, play video games, and go to shooting ranges.

Happy Halloween Say hello to C/ Marshall from Peachtree City, GA and C/ Dobson from McDonough, GA! C/ Marshall is working on her degree in Mass Media and hopes to use her major to aid in recruiting for AFROTC and encouraging others to join. When asked why she joined AFROTC, she said she very much wanted to serve my country. I was born in China, but was adopted by a loving American family. I got to grow up as a citizen of the United States! Serving in the US military is a ...way for me to contribute and to show my gratitude for this great nation of ours. In her free time, C/ Marshall enjoys dancing on the VSU Red Hots dance team, drawing and painting, and hanging with family and friends. C/ Dobson is pursuing her degree in criminal justice and aspires to commission into the Security Forces career field. When asked why she joined AFROTC, she said to further develop leadership skills and enhance physical fitness while pursuing a career path as an officer in the World’s Greatest Air Force. In her spare time, C/ Dobson loves distance running, reading, swimming, listening to music, and community service.
Det. 172 Q&A Live!
Why should YOU join Det 172? Glad you asked! Want to be part of something bigger than yourself? Come join us at Det 172 and begin your journey of becoming a commissioned officer in the World’s Greatest Air Force!
We had the honor of witnessing C/ Anderson (formerly known as SSgt Anderson) receive his Air Force Achievement Medal for his service while stationed at Moody AFB. Keep that spirit going and continue to be a great example for those around you!
Can you believe October is almost over? Allow us to introduce two of our awesome FTP cadets, C/ McCall from Adel, GA and C/ Campbell from Mableton, GA! C/ McCall is pursuing her degree in Elementary Education with hopes of entering the mental health field or Intelligence as an officer. When asked why she joined AFROTC, she said it was to continue the legacy that my late grandfather left, build my leaderships skills, and to be the first in my family to commission into the ...military as an officer. In her free time, C/ McCall enjoys singing, shopping, spending time with family, and going to church. C/ Campbell is pursuing his degree in computer science with hopes of becoming a fighter pilot upon commissioning. He says he joined AFROTC because it seemed like a really good fit for me. Also, I'd like to protect my future family physically and financially. In his free time, C/ Campbell likes to rock climb, go white-water kayaking, sing, and ballroom dance.
Capt Wagenius and our prior enlisted cadets spent some time with the 476 FG Airmen to talk about AFROTC and our program at Det 172. Thank you, Col Kelly, for having us!
Happy Friday! During your time in AFROTC, you’ll make some awesome friends, like our PFO and DNC officers: C/ Mitchell from Sylvester, GA and C/ Atkinson from Eastman, GA! C/ Mitchell is currently majoring in Business Management with a minor in Aerospace Studies, and he hopes to become a pilot in the Air Force. When asked why he chose AFROTC, C/ Mitchell said he wanted to be a part of something much bigger than myself. Serving my country and leading others has always been v...ery important and a high priority in my life. I strive to inspire others and being an officer in the world’s greatest Air Force gives me the perfect opportunity to do that. In his free time, C/ Mitchell loves flying, working out, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends. C/ Atkinson is studying Computer Science at VSU, and he hopes to attain any rated career field upon commissioning, preferably as a Combat Systems Officer. When asked why he decided to join AFROTC, C/ Atkinson said he wanted to serve my country and lead others. AFROTC seemed like the best route to do that. When not studying, C/ Atkinson enjoys spending time with friends, watching movies, and working out.
C/ House competed in the Blazer Classic race with VSU’s cross country team over the weekend. He now holds the VSU record for fastest 8K, finishing with a final time of 25:24.9, OVER 20 seconds faster than the previous record in 2014. C/ House, we’re super proud of you...congrats!
