Heads up: Lane closures return next week on Taylor Ridge. WHAT: Weather permitting, crews will continue to repair the roadway at Taylor Ridge on Highway 27 in neighboring Chattooga County. The work next week will require occasional lane closures with traffic being led by a pilot car. WHEN: Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 1 from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day as needed. Any lane closures required on Friday, July 2 will be completed by 12 p.m.... WHERE: The southbound lane of Highway 27 at Taylor Ridge will be closed as needed. Traffic will be paced in each direction through the area with a pilot car.

The Catoosa-Walker-Dade Vaccination Station will be open again this Thursday evening. Drop by the Colonnade in Ringgold between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for free, drive-thru protection against COVID-19. Pfizer vaccines will be offered on Thursday.

The House Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee and the Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee will hold a joint town hall hearing in Dalton next week. The hearing will take place Wednesday, June 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dalton State College, Gignilliat Hall Room 144, 650 College Drive, Dalton. Chairman Shannon Whitfield is scheduled to testify this afternoon on SB 118 before the Georgia Senate Transportation Committee. SB 118 would allow vehicles hauling forest products to reach a total gross weight of up to 100,000 pounds on six axles. Current law allows forest products to be hauled on five axles up to 80,000 pounds with a 5% variance. Chairman Whitfield will be speaking in opposition to this proposal, as increased weight limits lead to a rapid decline of local r...oads and bridges.
