SCHOOL CLOSING: Tallulah Falls School will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 30. Surrounding areas, including the campus, are still experiencing widespread power outages, downed trees, and road closures. There will also be no virtual school tomorrow. The Halloween Social at the Upper School and the Fall Festival at the Middle School will be postponed. The school says its plan is to reschedule at a later date. Coaches will be in contact with their teams to communicate details concerning practice opportunities.

More than 300 came to see US Senator Kelly Loeffler speak in Demorest. It was her first appearance in NE Georgia and she mingled with the crowd for 20 minutes after speaking for 15 minutes. Her message was "get out the vote"!
BREAKING NEWS: Power Restored to Voting Precincts in Habersham Habersham County has reopened election precincts and power has been restored. Residents may resume voting at either the North Precinct (Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center) or South Precinct (Cornelia First Baptist Church).
BREAKING NEWS: Habersham Schools to Remain Closed Tomorrow "Due to the significant impact of the tropical storm on our county, all schools will remain closed on Friday, October 30, 2020," says Superintendent Matthew Cooper. "Habersham County has experienced widespread power outages, downed trees, and downed power lines. 10 of our 13 school campuses have been without power."... Cooper says a decision on tomorrow night's home football game at Habersham Central will be made late tomorrow morning. Raider Stadium was without power for a large portion of the day.
Multiple trees down throughout the county with multiple roads impassable , please stay off the roads if at all possible.
Special Weather Statement for Habersham County Issued by National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, SC... 10:03 PM EST Wed, Dec 16, 2020 ...PATCHY DENSE FOG AND PATCHY BLACK ICE EXPECTED TONIGHT... As temperatures fall below freezing overnight, patchy black ice will develop on roads that remain wet from earlier precipitation. In addition, patchy dense fog will develop tonight as well. The fog will sharply reduce the visibility in some places to around one-quarter mile, making driving dangerous. A dense fog advisory may be needed for portions of the area. Travel may become difficult tonight. Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots often develop first. Motorists should also be alert to rapidly changing visibility, slow down, and use low beam headlights.

BRIDGE UPDATE: Habersham County announced today that necessary engineering work on the Pardue Mill Rd. Bridge will soon be underway. Geotechnical investigations are scheduled to begin the week after Thanksgiving. Once the geotechnical reports are complete, plans and related documents will be assembled for bidding. ... BOIL WATER NOTICE: The City of Baldwin Water System is issuing a boil water advisory due to a water main break in the 400 block of old Hwy 441 which may be disrupting the water supply or causing water pressure in parts of the water system to drop to very low levels. The advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution there is the potential a health hazard may exist due to microbial contamination in these areas without positive pressure. HEMC Update on Power Outages: Approximately 13,000 meters without power. 49 broken poles scattered throughout service area.... More than 50 additional linemen working around the clock in shifts as HEMC has mandatory rest periods for crews. HEMC expects restoration efforts to last through the weekend. Affected members are encouraged to make plans for extended outages. Avoid downed lines and treat all as if energized. Electricity can travel 35 feet or more through the ground.
