Here at Wellstar, defeating cancer in the shortest time possible is a team effort. When Lawrence Pinto's physical revealed a suspicious spot in his lung, he called Dr. Theolyn Price, thoracic surgeon at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, who confirmed it was cancer. Lawrence knew Dr. Price had cared for his brother after a bad car accident. When it came to choosing a doctor to examine his lungs, he had no doubts and called her right away. Bob Woodhead got a biopsy when his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) protein levels measured higher than normal. The biopsy revealed prostate cancer, and Bob began researching and evaluating his treatment options. He found Dr. Scott Miller, urologist, at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, who was the first Atlanta-area surgeon to perform robotic prostate surgery with the da Vinci robot system. Using this technology, Dr. Miller removed the prostate without affecting the surrounding nerves, resulting in less complications and more successful recoveries. A cancer diagnosis often comes with the stress of multiple appointments and long drives back and forth from the doctor. But when Alpharetta resident Nan Harman-Dempsey was diagnosed with breast cancer, she found the care she needed close to home. And because her cancer was in its early stage, she was a candidate for intraoperative radiation treatment (IORT), a groundbreaking procedure offered at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital.
