Your air conditioning system is your first line of defense against the heat, yes. But it does not cool your home by just pumping cold air into it, as many people believe. Your HVAC is also removing humidity. The evaporator coil in your air conditioning system is where the dehumidifying magic happens. Warm air from your home is pulled into the HVAC system before being blown over the evaporator coil. As you might know from science classes, humidity traps heat and warm air hold...s moisture. The evaporator coil collects moisture from the warm air in the form of condensation, which collects on the coil before dripping into a condensate pan. From the pan, a condensate array will drain the excess moisture entirely. As a result, running your HVAC will not only cool the air by removing heat, but it will dehumidify it lower the humidity levels at the same time. It truly is one of the most useful and important systems in your home! Another way to regulate indoor humidity is by using a dehumidifier. It’s best to use this device when the humidity in your home is more than 50 percent (anywhere between 30 and 50 percent is considered normal). Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air into a receptacle well but they don’t cool it down, so don’t confuse dehumidifiers with air conditioners. You can generally find portable units for sale at hardware or department stores and they can even run in the bedroom relatively quietly while you sleep. To prevent humidity from becoming a problem in your apartment in the first place, you can take simple steps to reduce the amount of moisture that you allow into the air. Run your HVAC system more frequently, in heat or cool mode, this will help pull moisture from the air. You can try a moisture eliminator, damp rid is a well-known brand. Use your exhaust fan when you are showering. Do not air-dry your laundered clothes indoors. Wipe all the windows and window seals on a weekly basis with a bleach type product. When you’re cooking or boiling water, cover the pots and use your kitchen exhaust fans. Fans are a great way to move stale warm air around the room and push humid air out to other rooms with lower humidity. Indoor houseplants, by their nature, absorb water and then release vapor into the air, raising the humidity in your apartment. If you have a lot of plants, you’re going to have a lot of moisture.

Showers can be a hot bed for mildew and soap scum if not properly cleaned on a regular basis. Here are some tips to keep your shower fresh and clean. Do these daily: Squeegee water off walls, floor and door. This will prevent mildew growing in the warm water left behind.... Run a vent fan during your shower or bath and up to 30 minutes afterward. This will help remove any humidity remaining in your bathroom. Leave the curtain slightly open to release any remaining humidity in the shower and to help dry moisture. You can use any gentle cleanser that can be purchased at most stores. However, be sure to check the bottle to make sure it is okay to use on your surface. If you want an easy, non-toxic cleaner, try this. Mix white cleaning vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil in a bottle. For every 2 ounces of vinegar, add one drop of tea tree oil. The vinegar helps to remove soap scum and slime while the tea tree oil fights mildew and mold. Vinegar can be found at numerous grocery stores while tea tree oil can be found at organic retailers like Whole Foods or online at Amazon.com. To use this vinegar-oil cleaner, simply spray on all walls, doors and floor and let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. For hard to clean areas, apply baking soda and scrub with vinegar to the problem area, and let sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. When was the last time you cleaned your shower head? If you can’t remember or you didn’t even know you could actually clean a shower head, then it’s definitely time. In five easy steps, you’ll have a clean shower head that delivers the perfect shower stream. 1. Pour vinegar* into a regular sandwich baggie. If your shower head is a bit large, you may need a gallon size baggie. 2. Put the vinegar-filled baggie over the shower head. 3. Attach the baggie with a rubber band. 4. Leave overnight. 5. Remove the baggie and run your shower to remove any remaining particles.

Say hello to our Pet of the Month! My name is Chloe and I have lived at Wembly since March. My favorite part of living here is meeting all the other dogs, the dog park, and watching the birds and bunnies from the porch! I love to chase frisbees and tennis balls, go for walks, and play with other dogs. My favorite treats involve peanut butter or jerky, but I love to chew on a bone too. My rain coat helps me stay dry when it rains even though I’m not a big fan of it. #petofthemonth #lovewhereyoulive #lifeatwembly

People write songs about it, but do we really know what love is? That’s something to consider on #National Love People Day. This day is dedicated to inspiring and supporting others with the power of unconditional love. NATIONAL LOVE PEOPLE DAY ACTIVITIES The idea for random acts of kindness epitomizes the spirit of National Love People Day. Share a resource or gift with someone in need. Offer to babysit so your friend can go out on a date night with their spouse. Give blood a...t a blood bank because it's one of the best ways to express to people you don't even know the love of life. Sometimes just a gentle word of support or showing empathy to a friend going through hard times is an effective way to honor National Love People Day. Share a hug, a cup of coffee, and a listening ear to someone you do or don't know. It can make all the difference in the world. WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL LOVE PEOPLE DAY We're in love with love: Love make us feel good! Scientists even associate the release of the chemical dopamine when we experience either pleasure or that phenomenon called "love at first sight." It's also why we feel happy when we do something nice for someone else. True love is unselfish: Real love is unconditional, meaning without limitations or restrictions. National Love People Day opens up a framework for discussion about why love is important without regard to color, ethnicity, religious or national backgrounds. Love is open and caring, the polar opposite of selfishness. Real love is within: When the founders came up with the idea for National Love People Day, it was to honor how love starts with the self and then spreads outward to others. We love ourselves when we eat healthy foods, develop good habits, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. By showing ourselves love, we then open up the dialogue to include love of other people. We've all had that moment where you need to dispose of something and you're not sure what to do with it. For those of you who are wondering what you can put in the compactor, we have the answers... Most trash is easily identifiable as, well...trash, but here's some quick examples of what goes in the compactor: Food Scraps, Food-soiled Paper (Pizza Boxes, Napkins, Take-out Containers)... Diapers, Pet Waste, Disposable Gloves Polystyrene Foam & Packaging Plastic Wrap, Bags & Other Plastic Film Broken Glass & Dishes (Please Wrap) Hoses, Cords & Wire Trash bags should be thrown into the chute and not placed on the edge or left sitting in front of the compactor. This also helps reduce mess in the compactor area and discourages scavenging animals/pest. Any materials that are flammable or likely to explode should never be placed inside of a compactor. The reasons are rather obvious these items explode when compressed and are an unnecessary safety risk that may even damage the compactor. If you have a large item or furniture to dispose of, you can usually schedule a pick up with your local Salvation Army, Re-Store, or a waste disposal company if you notify them 48 hours in advance. A trash removal fee may be assessed for leaving mattresses and other large items at the compactor area.
