Today, I want you to ignore your presumptions about life. You may think you have to be taught something to learn it, but that’s untrue. You may think that you have to feel a certain way when you hear the news- also untrue. You may think you have to be angry or express hatred when wronged by another. Again, untrue. Here’s the thing- every culture, sex, and ethnicity have negative stigmas attached to them. What would it look like if you walked around smashing them like fine chi...na today? You can learn without being taught. You can filter through media and determine the severity of real political issues ON YOUR OWN! You can also show love and forgiveness as an impulse. I’m going to take a moment to be really candid with you guys. Life is really tough. In fact there’s a lot of horrible cool things that we are all going to experience in our lives. I’m not going to try and spruce up anything here- I think we all live pretty naïvely... listen to some cold Case podcast or watch a documentary on World War II. We have no idea how horrible and cruel and evil the world can be. It’s easy to forget that that kind of thing can exist in our lives. I can...’t help but to think about this from time to time, and for a moment, it discourages me. However, the more I understand how horrible the world can be, the easier it is for me to see how important love and truth are. So, while this post may seem bleak and dismal, use it as a reminder that happiness is a luxury. If you feel as if you’re a happy person, then you are rich beyond your wildest dreams. So, stop shooting people the bird in traffic. Stop fighting over small stuff. Stop walking away from friends over silly emotional bouts. Start opening doors for folks. Hey, try smiling at someone else. It’ll make you smile too. It works. I literally do it all the time, and it’s free. As a matter of fact, it’s not just free, I think it pays dividends in emotional currency.
