VIRTUAL LEARNING TOOLS FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS One of the groups most impacted by COVID-19 in recent days has been our students and teachers. Whether attending class in person, or virtually, or homeschooling, everything has become more difficult for our kids, and our educators are having to become more creative and resourceful. North Georgia Wildlife Park would like to help! The Park offers a variety of virtual experiences which are appropriate for both classroom and at-hom...e learning. These experiences can come to you via Facebook, Zoom, or your existing platform, and are led by trained animal educators. Here are some examples: Animals Around the World This is our standard program highlighting a variety of animals and can be tailored to suit most any topic being studied. It includes 6-8 animals, and generally lasts 45-60 minutes. You will see and learn all about one of our feature animals such as a monkey, kangaroo, lemur, spectacled owl, otter, wolf or sloth, then a variety of other smaller animals, such as a chinchilla, hedgehog, snake, guinea pig, ferret or armadillo. Zippity Zoo, a shorter version of our standard Animals Around the World and features a fun variety of some of our smaller animal friends. It includes 4-5 animals, lasting up to 30 minutes. This is a good option for younger kids that might not have the attention span for longer screen time. Available animals may include hedgehog, chinchilla, 3 banded armadillo, guinea pig, sugar glider, rabbit, baby goat or lamb, chicks and ducks, snake, lizard, baby alligator, giant pixie frog, and others. Zookeeper Chat This experience is designed to be viewed on one screen by one person (or small group) at a time. You will meet and interact with an animal keeper and learn all about a specific animal. Zookeeper Chats last 20-30 minutes. Design Your Own Virtual Experience Call the North Georgia Wildlife Park and tell us what you want to do! New-Pavilion Rental! Looking to gather with your family but still needing to social distance? NGWP offers a great option! The pavilion is great for large gatherings, it is 30 by 60 ft which allows groups to gather while still being able to keep at distance. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of NGWP while you get some much needed fellowship. Our Pavilion can be rented for $250 for up to 2 hours, $50 for each additional hour. TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY AT NORTH GEORGIA WILDLIFE PARK Being a teacher has never been easy, but with the arrival of COVID-19 it suddenly became much more difficult. The beginning of the school year has been filled with obstacles that our teaching community has never had to navigate before. There is still much uncertainty about what the future holds for this school year. At North Georgia Wildlife Park, we want our area schoolteachers and school staff to know that we love you ...and appreciate all you do! You are among the most essential of all our essential workers. So, we are hosting Teacher Appreciation Day here at the NGWP this Saturday, August 22, 10:00am 5:00pm. All teachers and their families are invited to visit our Safari Drive Thru for free this Saturday! You’ll be able to view dozens of animals while social distancing from the comfort of your car. You can even purchase snacks to toss to the animals while you are driving past them. Simply present your school ID for free admission to the Safari Drive Thru. In order to limit the number of guests to a manageable size, this event is only for employees of public or private schools. We will hold a similar event in the near future for homeschool teachers. SLOTH HOUSE GRAND OPENING Hope Bennett, co-owner/director of North Georgia Wildlife Park has long had a dream of opening a new Sloth House for the Park’s sloths, and now that dream has become a reality. Join us on August 1, 5:30pm 6:30pm as we celebrate the grand opening of our new Sloth House. Completing the sloth habitat was no easy task. Many friends became financial sponsors to help fund the project. The house had to meet specific guidelines to ensure the health and hap...piness of the new homeowners. It required extensive testing to make sure that our sloths will be healthy and happy in their new home. The new sloth house is home to three sloths Jolly, Jovial and Jubilee. All are two-toed sloths, native to the tropical rainforests of South America and Central America. Sloths spend most of their lives hanging upside down from tree limbs. They are perhaps best known for how slowly they move, which is VERY slowly. They are fascinating animals that most people find enchanting. Guests will have the opportunity to see the new habitat and its inhabitants, as well as meet some of the people who love and take care of them. There will be light refreshments served at the event as well. As a special treat, guests will also get to meet and interact with Noelle, our youngest sloth. Noelle is only one and a half years old. She was acquired from another zoo, where she had gotten off to a rough start because her mother had not produced enough milk for her. Fortunately, Hope Bennett, the co-owner/director of North Georgia Wildlife Park, has had years of experience with nursing baby animals to health. She teamed with the Windward Veterinary Hospital and together they were able to see Noelle not only survive but thrive. In fact, Noelle may even be a little bit spoiled! During the COVID-19 outbreak, North Georgia Wildlife Park & Zoo worked hard to provide programming that was fun, interesting and still followed the guidelines set out by the CDC and the governor’s office. PRESS RELEASE NORTH GEORGIA SAFARI DRIVE THRU Due to the enormous popularity of the North Georgia Wildlife Park Social Distancing Drive Thru Zoo, the Wildlife Park will continue to offer this unique animal encounter, along with a few upgrades to the experience. First, the experience will now be named North Georgia Safari Drive Thru. As you drive through the park, it will have the look and feel of an African safari. New animals have been added to the route, which include...s zebras, ostrich, water buffalo, hornbills, camels, emus and warthogs. Take your time driving through the safari and snap all the photos you like! Cost for the Safari Drive Thru is only $5/person. You can add on a Camel Experience for an additional $10/person. This allows you to stop midway through the drive thru and feed and pet our camels! For an additional cost of $40/car with up to 4 passengers (plus $10/person for each additional passenger), you can add on a Small Animal Experience, where an animal educator will bring three small animals (such as a chinchilla, hedgehog or snake) right to your car so that you can view them up close. Also, add on a Sloth Meet & Greet for $200/car with up to two passengers (plus $100/person for each additional passenger), and Hope Bennett, co-owner and director of North Georgia Wildlife Park will personally introduce you to Noelle, our youngest sloth.
