*UPDATE* The Americus Police Department is investigating a series of shooting incidents which occurred between February 14th and 16th this week. On February 14th at approximately 11:55pm, officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Cherokee Street (132) where shots had been fired into the apartment striking a 15-year old male victim twice. He is currently hospitalized in Macon in stable condition. On February 15th at approximately 11:10pm, officers responded to shot...s fired at a residence in the 300 block of Bessie Mays Circle (307-A). Multiple shots fired in the residence struck 2 female victims, age 28 and 20. Both victims were taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where they were treated. On February 16th at 12:26am, officers responded to shots fired into a residence in the 600 block of Winn Street (617). Multiple shots were fired into the residence, which was occupied at the time of the shooting but no one was injured. Then at 12:40am, officers responded to shots fired into a residence in the 900 block of Railroad Street (902). Again, multiple shots were fired into the occupied residence but with no injuries. *UPDATE* The Americus Police Department is NOW investigating an additional shooting incident which occurred today (2/16/21) around 1:20pm in the area of Beale Street in Americus. The incident is alleged to have occurred on a foot path between Bessie Mays Circle and Beale Street. The 20-year old male victim was shot once in the leg and was treated at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Suspects have been identified in this case as well as one in the previous shooting incidents. It is likely that all of these incidents are related and the Americus Police Department is requesting the community's assistance in identifying those responsible for each of these shooting incidents. On Wednesday February 10th at approximately 2:25pm, members of the Americus Police Department located a suspect wanted on multiple felony charges in the area of Reddick Drive in Americus. 20-year old Zy'ibravian Temale Streeter was apprehended after a foot chase. Streeter was armed with a 40-caliber handgun at the time of the arrest. He was wanted in connection to an armed robbery in the 100 block of Hosanna Circle in Americus. He is charged with 1-count of Armed Robbery; 4-counts of Aggravated Assault; 1-count of Aggravated Battery; and 1-count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony related to the November incident. He is charged with Reckless Conduct related to the attempt to elude capture and additional charges may be pending. Streeter is being held in the Sumter County Jail.

MURDER UPDATE: Charges of murder and aggravated assault are now listed for 22-year old Jaron Sharod Griffin of Americus. He is charged with the shooting death of 26-year old David Joshua Mitchell Saturday afternoon. Griffin is housed at the Sumter County Jail.

SHOOTING UPDATE: Americus Police and the GBI are investigating a shooting which occurred this afternoon (1/23/21) in the Perlis Plaza parking lot at approximately 2:19pm. Officers, Emergency Medical Personnel and Sumter Co. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and found a male victim with gunshot wounds seated in a car in the parking lot. The victim, identified as David Joshua Mitchell, 26, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A suspect, 22 year old Jaron Sharod Griffin of Americus is in custody. Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call Americus Police at 229-924-3677 or after hours 229-937-9011.

BREAKING NEWS...1 person is dead in a shooting this afternoon in the Perlis Plaza parking lot. Americus Police and Sumter Co. Sheriff's Deputies are still on the scene. The Coroner was notified. Suspects were taken into custody literally minutes afterward. Chief Mark Scott will be issuing a press release but due to the ongoing investigation it will be later tonight. This deadly shooting occurred after 2:30 this afternoon (1/23/21).

BREAKING NEWS...Eric Romone Lewis, 37 of Americus, the suspect in the November 25th murder of Kedrick Deon Williams has been taken into custody. Lewis was arrested by the Henry County Police Department during a traffic stop. He was arrested without incident and is being held in the Henry County Jail pending transfer to Sumter County. HOMICIDE SUSPECT IDENTIFIED by AMERICUS POLICE. The Americus Police Department and the GBI are seeking the public's assistance in locating Eric Romone Lewis, 37 of Americus. Lewis is wanted for the November 25th murder of Kedrick Deon Williams. Eric Lewis is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately and report the information. WEEKEND UPDATE on the 3 homicides since Wednesday night 11/25/2020. #1-Sumter SO Deputies responded at 6:05pm to the Rainbow Terrace area where they found 25-year old Chauncey Goodwin dead from a gunshot wound. 26-year old Corderious Smith has been identified as a person of interest. #2-35-year old Kedrick Deon Williams was found in the roadway on Lester Street at approximately 8:46pm from apparent gunshots. This is an ongoing investigation and NO ONE was arrested as of toda...y. A person of interest IS being sought and we may have a further update later today. #3--the Sumter County SO went out Thanksgiving Day at 12:21pm to 296 Middle River Road where 50-year old Richard Pitts was found deceased from an assault. The sole suspect, 62-year old Charlie Davis is in custody and currently held in the Sumter County Jail. The GBI is assisting in all 3 investigations. The Coroner was called to each scene.
