Stop and read John Lewis hopeful words along the Freedom Trail today - especially if you are doing the 5k!

Wondershop Atlanta 06.02.2021

You can start NOW on your 5k journey to remember John Lewis, support Neighbor in Need East Lake , fund Pancreatic Cancer Action Network , and get some exercise anytime this weekend! John Lewis would have turned 81 on Sunday. Sign up at www.DearJohn5k.org for a cool t-shirt. Psst... don't tell anyone but you can just "say" you ran.

Best explanation I got. Great weekend to do something in honor of John Lewis / Rep John Lewis. You don't have to be in Atlanta to show your love!

Grab your kid, socially-distance with a friend, or just walk/run this weekend to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis. Walking a loop along the Freedom Trail is a no-brainer and beautiful. If all you want is the tshirt, know the money will support local Neighbor in Need East Lake and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Any of my musician/artist friends interested in a Dec. outdoor event (see below)? Lake Claire (Socially Distanced) Holiday Craft Fair Date TBD: First weekend in December - Either Dec. 4 or 5 Details:... We hope you want to be part of the Lake Claire Holiday Craft Fair Walking Tour. Our idea is to have artists/vendors/businesses located on porches of homes and outside places throughout the Lake Claire Neighborhood, and we will distribute a walking tour map. If you are interested in being a part of this Lake Claire Holiday Socially Distanced Craft Fair or know someone who does, please reach out to Annsley Klehr at [email protected] with any questions. Our idea this year is that each artist will sell on a porch MASKED or at a designated outdoor location. We will hand you a receipt book, and you will be responsible for collecting your own money. 10% of sales go to Mary Lin Elementary School, which you will give to us, and we will write a check to Mary Lin. We are also finding hosts who aren't the artists who are willing to host on their porches, for those artists who don't have a good space outside or just don't want to host in your own home. We are excited to be able to hold this fun Lake Claire tradition in a socially distant fashion. Please respond soon so we can start planning.

Looks like I'll have some office space at Wondershop beginning in August. Anybody need a low impact, Candler Park space, with few others to get work done? It's about 200 square feet. Could be a solo office or shared space. Email me at [email protected] for details.

Could use some local, community FB input. You know I've been at Wondershop for a little over 3 years now. You may also know owner wants to sell my space and one next door. Rough time to sell/buy commercial real estate but my whole heart has hoped to make an outsized impact on my community. Right now, there are folks wanting to start a CP market competitor, a tattoo shop, or private firm in the spaces. I don't blame them as they need to find their business future. What I do t...hink matters is having the spaces work to "better" the neighborhood. Having them offer something that enlivens the corner of Oakdale & McLendon and not diminish it. I was on the road to that end in starting a smoothie/coffee spot when covid hit. Am I being too Pollyannish? Too rose-colored glasses in hoping to create a more vibrant commercial area in Candler Park? Totally understand if I'm the only one who thinks this. Just want to know. I've been working on a business plan that creates a food shop, maybe even a small pub on the corner where the bellydancers once danced. It'll take more $$ than I have at hand now - and more support in the coming months if I can make it a reality, but I feel it'd really add some community space to the neighborhood. Love to hear anyone's thoughts. As always, don't hesitate to reach out and give me your 2 cents. The neighborhood gets to decide ultimately with their attention and money.

Think @sethgodin put it as simply, in a 30 sec read no less, than I've heard it put. Gives me new perspective on community. #ShoesForEveryone https://seths.blog/2020/06/invisible-insulation/

Great 30 second post by Seth Godin today. I'm thinking of building a bridge, so it's quite appropriate... The head of the Long Island Parkway told Robert Moses, Legislation can change, but it’s very hard to tear down a bridge once it’s up. What he meant, what Moses understood, was that once the systems are in place, they defend themselves. The roads of Boston have all outlasted the buildings. The buildings get razed and rebuilt, but the byways and thoroughfares remain, beca...use the system demands far more effort to change than the road ever did to get built in the first place. The irony of the word ‘bridge’ in this sentence is profound. Because when we say bridge, we usually mean a connection, or a way to move forward. And while these metaphorical bridges are far more fragile than the stuff Moses built, they’re worth building too. Because one way to change systems is to start building connections and tunnels and yes, bridges, that make the old ones shift."
