Still sitting in some heavy or conflicting emotions post-election? This week, I chatted with my psychologist friends, @hellodrjoy & @askdrjoy about what may be coming up for many of us this week and possibly weeks to come. Our group chat has come to your ears ! . Take a listen at @therapyforblackgirls podcast, session 181, and let me know what you think about it! Share with friends, family members, colleagues who may also benefit.
You can make offerings of yourself to someone's else's life, but you cannot control what they choose to take with them on their personal journey. Even if you repeat it several times. Even if you keep forgiving them.... Even if you give them tons of examples of ways to be "better." Even if you show them ways to avoid a pain that you're very much familiar with. They will make their own choices. They will have their unique life lessons. The way they choose to live their life with or without your offerings will also become one of YOUR life lessons. #Lessons #Life #LifeLessons #DrAY

Thank you, @mindbodygreen for another feature! What a timely piece on how some of us are re-evaluating our friendships, experiencing some anxiety in feeling disconnected from our friends or maybe we don't know how to stay close to people who, pre-pandemic, we were in more contact with. . This may not be a bad thing! Friendships change over time and not always due to drama or strain. I felt so free once I learned that everyone is not always thinking about me, watching me & waiting on me. Whew, the ego and the anxiety! I was swimming in it. The stories we tell ourselves about how much and why others may be preoccupied with us are usually much worse than what people actually ARE thinking about us, IF we're even on their minds. Try not to spend too much time in thoughts you don't have evidence to support. Especially when it comes to reading people's minds and minding people's business.
For mamas and babies up to 1y - join tomorrow for additional social support!
We all have basic biological and psychological needs (see: Maslow's Hierarchy for some ideas). We also each have a set of unique needs that are based on our personal histories, goals, beliefs about ourselves & others, etc. I find that many people don't know, understand or assert what their needs are because they've: 1. Never been taught that they have basic and unique needs and are allowed to have them. ... 2. Were denied their basic needs and now have difficulty (re)establishing them. 3. Recognize their needs but deny them because they've been taught that they need "too much." 4. See needs as wants, feel selfish & so deny needs for themselves and others. 5. Fear needs won't be met by others so deny that they exist. 6. Probably many other reasons. I will sometimes ask clients to make a list of their needs in various relationships and see what they come up with and compare to what they are actually experiencing. They sometimes blow their own minds when they seek the truth about which relationships are meeting their needs and which ones are far off base, which directly correlates with how safe, seen and satisfied they in life. . Here's what you can do: Make a list. Compare what you wrote to what you live. See where that takes you. If you want to comment on your list, feel free to so so below! . #Boundaries #Basics #Needs #DrAY #AscensionBH #Relationships
