Any day old man! C-Shift gave B-Shift, Sgt. Derrick Wyatt, a going away applause this past Friday morning as he finished up his final shift with #AFRD. He did 27 years of service with assignments at only 2 stations. Wagon 7 and Station 1. In his final years at Station 1 he proudly served as the driver of Air 7, our mobile air unit which refills #SCBA bottles on fire incidents. A wealth of knowledge and stories will be lost with his retirement but he left an impact on every member he came into contact with while on the job. The Atlanta Fire Background and Recruitment Section teamed up with the Atlanta Fire Training Section to provide a demonstration of fire behavior to Therrell High School High School AFRD delayed entry program students. This dollhouse demonstration for those students interested in becoming Atlanta firefighters provides an introduction to the skills and information they can expect to become familiar with once accepted as fire recruits. Therrell High School's staff and Principal Powell have supported our efforts to show that anyone can have the courage and learn the skills it takes to serve our community. Background and Recruitment Section Chief Harvey and Captain Chatman have been instrumental in operating this program and ensuring our youth have a path to a successful public safety career.

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of (Ret.) Captain Gregory Wise, age 50. His hard fought battle with stomach cancer came to an end yesterday on July 22, 2019, as he was surrounded by his wife Kristy, daughter Addie, and son Colton. Captain Wise served the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department for 28 courageous years. He consistently put the safety of our citizens above his own in his duties. The lessons he left firefighters will be shared for years to come and he ...will surely be missed by all who were blessed to be in his presence. Rest easy, brother. We deliver babies quite often. We rarely get reunited with them. What a great day for those involved. Dorreus Fletcher was delivered by Atlanta Firefighters Ch...ip Newell and Michael Lewis on January 23,2001. Eighteen years later his mother never forgot the names of the two Atlanta Firefighters who delivered her son and reached out to AFRD to invite the two FF’s to his graduation. They were thrilled and honored to be remembered and invited to such an occasion. See more

This past Wednesday afternoon, Atlanta Fire responded to a reported house fire near Meldrum Street and James P. Brawley Drive. The first-in apparatus reported a one story wood frame house fully involved with an exposure on the "delta" side starting to catch fire as well. A defensive operational mode was called and a 2nd alarm was activated. The fast moving fire caused the initial fire building to collapse and eventually consumed the exposure property before firefighters were able to get it under control. One dog escaped the fire before firefighters arrived on scene and there were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.
