Attention Baldwin County Commuters Who Travel on Fall Line Freeway Fall Line Freeway widening project plans launch virtually today SANDERSVILLE - Georgia DOT is seeking feedback about a proposed Washington County solution to finalize four-lane widening on the recently constructed Fall Line Freeway/State Route (SR) 540 by widening the existing highway from east of Chambers Brooks Spring Road to west of Helton Lane. The original construction project had to reroute on the existi...ng SR 24 due to a slope failure north of the current travel lanes. The Georgia DOT has posted project information for State Route 24 from east of Chambers Brooks Spring Road to west of Helton Lane (PI # 0015878) at http://www.dot.ga.gov/AboutGDOT/PublicOutreach. Citizens can log official comments from Wednesday, Oct. 28 until Wednesday, Nov. 25. The website will remain live for project viewing after the end date. The proposed corridor improvements would follow the existing SR 24 three-lane alignment as the centerline of the new widening and would be four lanes divided by a four-foot flushed median. Existing right of way is approximately 102 feet (varies) with the proposed new ROW being approximately 180 feet but could expand due to additional storm-water management areas. The purpose of this internet posting is to replace an in-person meeting, while allowing the public to review the proposed project files, provide feedback or write in with questions. How Can You Assist: Please provide feedback about our proposed solution as well as information about any resources important to you or to the community. Are there events that future construction may affect once it begins? Where is this project in the process? This project is currently in the preliminary design phase. What are the Next Steps? After public input is received through this website, the feedback will be assessed, plan revisions may occur, or the no-build alternative will be selected. If major changes occur to what was previously shown to the community, additional public outreach would occur. If no major changes are proposed, the project would advance to right-of-way acquisition and into final design. After all right-of-way acquisition occurs, project design is finalized, and the project would advance to construction.
