OPERATION WARM UP ATHENS We want to give back to our community and help our local homeless. As winter has set in, our homeless community is in need of items to help stay warm and make it through the cold days. We invite our local Athenians and those in the surrounding area to join us in the effort. We are collecting items to make Winter Care Packs to distribute around Athens. Donations can be brought to our office by January 20th. ... Attached in the comment section is a full list of the items we are asking from the community to add to our packs. The more items we receive the more Winter Care Packs we can distribute. Lets help our local community and share a little love in these hard times we face.

Yesterday our department had the privilege to host newly elected commissioners Carol Myers and Jesse Houle. They were given a quick presentation about our depar...tment followed by a great question and answer session. They were then taken on a tour around our training center and were shown some of the apparatus and equipment used in the performance of our jobs. We would like to thank Barrett's Towing for donating a car for the demonstration. And we really wish to express our thanks to the commissioners and the Athens-Clarke County, GA Unified Government Manager’s office for making this possible. We are happy to see the interest in our department and in the welfare and safety of our community.

Interesting recovery this past week. While tearing out a pool, this mini-x sunk in the mud. Our crews were able to dig it out and winch it back out of the hole.

ROAD CLOSURE: MLK Pkwy will be closed between College Ave & Mandy Dr for several hours due to a broken water main following a vehicle accident. Road crews are on scene making necessary repairs.
