In honor of October being National Community Planning Month, we’re highlighting a few of our recent Community Planning projects. Blue Cypress, alongside Hatley Plans, worked with the City of Flowery Branch on a multi-month process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. This project utilized multiple methods of public engagement, including virtual public meetings, and interactive website, and a community survey. Flowery Branch’s City Council adopted the updated plan on June 17, 2021.

Our Ministry of Culture Book Club met yesterday to discuss our current pick, Southern Water, Southern Power: How the Politics of Cheap Energy and Water Scarcity Shaped a Region by Christopher J. Manganiello. The team had an engaging discussion about the influence and impact of southern utilities as well as the environmental history of the American South.

Join Blue Cypress Consulting’s John Evans and Jefferson County’s David Denard for their presentation on March 24th, 2021, at 3 PM during the WEF Collection Systems Conference. John and David will discuss how Jefferson County shifted from being nearly 100% reactive to 70% proactive with its sewer cleaning program while reducing operations and maintenance (O&M) related sanitary sewer overflows and back-ups by 55% with no increase in the O&M budget. #WEFCollections

Thanks to Society of American Military Engineers, Atlanta Post for hosting an insightful seminar yesterday on water resiliency in the Metro Atlanta area. Stephen Bailey, PWS, moderator, and panelists Katherine Zitsch, Kim Holland, and Ayanna Williams spoke on the necessity of maintaining water infrastructure, regional planning initiatives and how the community can contribute to water resilience.
