( @svansyckle ) This is what they had to share about the journey to their son: "We were prayerful as we begin receiving situations of expectant moms and dads looking for loving families, but each time we read someone’s story our hearts broke for them. There are so many people hurting, having to make the very selfless decision to place their baby for adoption. To this day we continue ...to pray for the families whose stories touched our hearts and are forever etched in our memories. In November, we presented to a young mom in Florida who was specifically looking for a family who believed in God and had older children because she wanted her son to grow up with siblings. Several details about her story stood out to us and we felt like God was speaking to our hearts to present our profile. After we sent our profile in we waited and prayed. Two weeks went by before we got a call from our attorney saying this precious mom had chosen our family. We were shocked, humbled, and just overjoyed! We couldn’t believe it! A few months later, on March 28th, our son was born. We received a call on the morning of the 29th letting us know our sweet boy was here and that he was a month early! We grabbed our bags, dropped off our older children with grandparents, and jumped on a flight a few hours later. We got to Florida as fast as possible! After five weeks in the NICU, we were finally able to bring our baby home. Looking back on those hard weeks in the hospital, God truly had His hand on our son and carried us through. We have another staff introduction for you this evening! ... Karalee has a Master’s Degree from the University of Louisville & has over 13 years experience as an Adoption Consultant with CAC. In addition to consulting with Christian Adoption Consultants, Karalee also writes home studies in the state of Kentucky for a local licensed adoption agency. Karalee and her husband are also former clients of CAC and proud adoptive parents of three amazing kids. ' : "My parents fostered when I was little, and that experience definitely shaped my young life and made me think about family in a different way. When my husband and I were faced with infertility, pursuing medical treatments didn’t feel like an option for us. We knew right away that adoption was absolutely our path. We had signed up with an unethical agency and been involved in a situation that ultimately failed and left us broken-hearted. Then, we were connected Christian Adoption Consultants (CAC). Tonight Adoption Consultant Kelly shares how to have joy while walking through the ups and downs of the adoption process. "...The day-to-day stress of life can be exhausting. But when you add the unknowns and emotions involved with the adoption process, it can become even more difficult to manage. Having joy in the adoption process can be challenging, but it’s a critical part of the journey that is sometimes overlooked. Defining joy is important. Today, when we think of joy, ...we often think of surface-level happy, rainbows and butterflies-type of attitude or perspective. But the joy I’m referring to is a Christ-centered, all- sustaining, all-consuming joy. It's the kind of joy that will hold you up through the deepest trenches and darkest nights. This is indestructible joy. Psalm 16:11 tells us that, in Christ’s presence, there is a fullness of joy and in His hand there are pleasures forever more. Scripture makes it very clear that, for Christians, our ultimate joy isn’t found in this world but rather in Christ. However, as someone who has struggled with infertility and walked through several bouts of cancer, this is something I’ve really struggled with through the years. How am I to have joy while I’m walking through the really really messy and difficult stuff? I know the Bible says my joy is found in Christ, but how to do I get there? How do I walk this life with joy when I’ve waited years and years for a child with what seems like no answer from God? Perhaps some of you have asked similar questions. How do I have joy when I’ve been told 'no' for the 15th time from an expectant mother? I know the Bible says a lot about rejoicing through my sufferings, but how? Dawn & Jason are Certified Parent Trainers with TCU Institute of Child Development with over 17 years combined experience (including agency experience). Dawn holds a bachelor’s degree from Simpson University & Jason’s Diploma is from Croydon College in England. They have a depth of personal adoption experience having 9 adopted kids (through domestic, international, special needs, transracial & foster/state adoptions). They are also former CAC clients. ' : "Our adoption story starts when I was 8 and had cancer. Because of the surgery I knew I would never be able to have children. So when my husband and I got married we knew we would be adopting. Through friends we were led to foster care, and within 3 years we adopted a sibling set. We went on to foster and adopt 3 more children. At that time our hearts were opened to the international need for adoption. We were matched with a little girl named Hannah Grace, who would go on to meet Jesus a week before her Ethiopian adoption was finalized. After taking a needed time of mourning we were matched with our son. We started the process again, but this time had issues with USCIS and were not allowed to bring home our next daughter we had been matched with. After grieving yet again, we cried out to God and asked Him if we were ever meant to adopt again. That is when we found Christian Adoption Consultants. We never dreamed it was possible for a larger family to ever adopt domestically! Within a week of signing on with CAC our daughter was in our arms! After CAC opened a special needs program we decided to adopt again. Within a few months of signing on we brought home our youngest son. We were so excited to start working with CAC as Adoption Consultants! Today Adoption Consultant Susan explains. @svansyckle "If I could sit down across the table with every adoptive family over a mug of coffee and give them advice on the adoption process, this would be it: ... I rarely meet a couple who has never thought about adoption for their own family. In fact, most people I know tell me they've seriously considered it, but have yet to take the important first steps. Then they hear about a need, and are unable to walk into it simply because they haven't prepared. You have to make yourself ready for adoption for it to happen. This mean taking the steps to become home study ready and making a down payment with your heart and your money. God can't use families if they're not available. You can't go it alone. Adoption requires community. Adoption is a complex process of home studies, profile creation, legal paperwork, and applications. Finding the right professionals to help you is crucial; the right adoption consultant, home study and placing agency, social workers, and attorneys often means the success or failure of an adoption. But on top of having the right adoption professionals, also surround yourself with a team of friends and family who will help with the emotions, fiances, and logistics of your adoption. Going down the road with others who share your vision and prayerfully support you will enable you to confidently walk out what God has called you to. Adoption is a constant tension of having a plan and a vision and being ready for God to change it at a moments notice. One week I got a call from one of my clients who learned about their baby Sunday and met him Tuesday. Their plans for the week changed dramatically. Adoption almost never happens as you "plan" it. Roadblocks come up. Emergency calls are received. But if you have a heart that has been open and available to God and are a part of a team wisely built, God does amazing things in the chaos of moments. Babies are born. Jim and Julie are a CAC family who adopted with the help of Adoption Consultant Kelly. @kellybethtodd This is what they had to say about the journey to their daughter: It has been a much longer journey than we expected to begin our family. However, as painful as parts have been, we don’t believe it was wasted. God grew us both during this time. We learned to persevere, and that with God’s presence, we could handle more than we thought possible. We also were forced ...to trust God, and give up the illusion of control. We have struggled with fear along this journey, and we believe God purposefully allowed us to be in situations where we had absolutely no control, so that we would learn to trust Him. Finally, we experienced, up close, God’s comfort and kindness for us. Not just when we finally became parents, but in the time leading up to that. He consistently put friends in our lives who prayed for us, checked in our how we were doing after setbacks, encouraged us to continue, and did thoughtful things, like bringing me sunflowers on Mother’s Day. It made us realize, like never before, that God sees us in our suffering. Every tear we shed in our desire for a child, God was right there, loving us, and wanting us to turn to Him. Though this timeline is not what we would have thought we wanted, we are so grateful that God loved us enough to do what’s best for us. We would encourage anyone who is pursuing adoption to persevere in hope, trust Him in painful and uncertain moments, and seek His heart and will for you.
