A message for the other business owners in our area. If you ever question the service you get from your mobile phone company, I can confidently say the Verizon in our area is hands down the best. This is my opinion, but I have used them now for almost 10 years and chose them for knowing that had the best coverage on the outer areas, like islands. Over the years the customer service I have received has always been OUSTANDING. #ThrowbackThursday Usually, at this time of year HSF is holding our annual Preservation Awards ceremony. That event has been postponed, and this year's winners ...will be announced at a later date, but in honor of National Preservation Month we'd like to share some of our favorite winners from past years. In 2015, HSF recognized the restoration of 1301 Lincoln Street - originally a 1925 Standard Oil Station. This is a perfect example of how a building can be altered and evolve over time. Comprising five sections, built-out over five decades, the owners of the building had the challenge of restoring portions, while remodeling others to become more compatible with the overall design. Originally, opened as a small one room gas station with a canopy roof, it was enlarged over the years, most notably the addition of the garage bays during the 1960s. The canopy roofs were removed, and the roofline reconfigured. By the time business partners Frank Ellsworth and Matthew Hallett purchased the building in 2012, it had been vacant for many years, and most of the wood framing had been eaten by termites. They said, "the only thing holding the building up was the brick veneer on the outside. The original structure had to be largely re-framed from the inside out." The duo actually found the original 1930s green enamel industrial lights in the attic space of the building, and reinstalled them in their historic location. One of the biggest trends we are seeing for 2020 is color saturated high gloss tiles. In addition, the #Pantone color of the year for 2020 is a classic blue. In one of our first meetings with the clients they indicated how much they love the view of ships sailing past their windows along the Bull River. Inspired by that sentiment we designed a custom steel table leg abstracted from the shape of the ships hulls passing by.
