Has this ever happened to you? You are late for an appointment and pushing the speed limit. Suddenly you catch a glimpse of flashing lights in your rearview mirror, You watch in numb despair as a police car draws ever closer and finally pulls over the car next to you! Would that experience change your driving habits (at least for the next few miles)? One of the reasons God gave the Old Testament was to provide flashing lights to warn you of dangerous situations. Nada, Abihu, ...and others who took God's holiness lightly learned the hard way, but you don't have to, If you take their painful examples to heart. Read aloud 1Corinthians 10:11. Then, beginning with the story of Nadab and Abihu, share your own lessons from their lives, from which you can benefit today, After all, you'll never live long enough to duplicate all the mistakes of others--Nor do you have to. We have a record of eight profound, world changing promises that God made to Abram. (Later called Abraham). In Galatians 3:29, the apostle Paul explained that if "you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed., and theirs according to the promise.

Abram's Call and God's Promises Having dealt with rebellious people for generations, God now begins to unfold his great plan of redemption-a plan beginning with one man, Abram, God calls Abram to leave his home in Ur of the Chaldeans and travel to a distant but unspecified New land, Responding in faith, Abram obeys with nothing to cling to but the promises of God-promises of a great name, a great nation, and a great blessing for all people. The journey is not without its mom...ents of danger, as seen in the life of Lot. But through it all, Abram dares to believe God for what seems impossible, given his childless condition. Moving experience a God fearing family obeys the voice of God, pulls up stakes in Ur, and heads for a new home more than a thousand miles away. But Hebrews 11:8 explains why this was no ordinary move. Abraham...obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. The command of God was clear, but the destination was not. That's faith--the kind that pleases God (Hebrews 11:6) and the kind God wants you to exercise today in similar situations. Abram (later Called Abraham) found that you don't always need to know where you're going, provided you know whom you're following. Discuss with family or friends a decision you are facing involving career, home, or finances--and the way Abram's example can make your decision easier, Then memorize this verse together: Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness" (15:6) The evidence For Knowing God Is Obeying God. The Original Christmas Present. The Lamb who breaks the seals of today's reading was born centuries ago in a small stable in a small town of a small Roman province. The contrast between the picture at the manger and the picture of the final judgment and harvest is, to say the least, dramatic. This special baby of Christmas Carol's turned out to be "the Lamb at the center of the throne" (7:17). Only a few during His earthly ministry would recognize him as such. But when he is unveiled before all creation as he appears in Revelation 6-7. No one will recognize him as anything less. Chapter.6 The plagues of the seven seals. Devastating. Numbering a multitude.7:1-8. Sealed. Chapter 7. A numberless multitude 7:9-17. Saved. Jesus is God spelling Himself out in Language the world can understand.

Do you recognize Jesus of Nazareth? The child of this holiday is the center of all creation and will be worshiped for all eternity. The Word became human and made his home among us specifically to spill his blood in order to wash the robes of his servants and make them clean (7:14). The man who stood before human kings and was condemned is also the Lamb who stands before the throne to lead us to springs of life-giving water (7:17). What began in the womb of a young Jewish gir...l will be completed in the frightening, glorious time foreseen by John. As you hear the Carol's of Christmas today, think also of another refrain being sung--or, rather, shouted. You'll find it in 7:10, 12. It's the praise God deserves to hear for sending Jesus to us and the ultimate recognition of who the Christ child really is. You may even want to repeat those words out loud whenever you have a chance today. Every time you open a gift, be reminded of the ultimate gift of the Lamb--a gift that lasts forever. See more
