Special Weather Statement Snow Flurries and Black Ice Possible Special Weather Statement issued December 23 at 2:38PM EST by NWS Peachtree City GA... A storm system will move into the area tonight into Christmas Eve. Initially, it will bring heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms with a small threat of strong winds. On the backside of this system Thursday evening, we could see some snow flurries flying across the area before ending early Christmas Eve night. With the precipitation moving out so quickly, no accumulations are anticipated with these snow flurries. In addition to the flurries, cold air rushing in could allow for some black ice to develop even after the precipitation has ended. Winds will help dry things out but patches of black ice will be possible well into Christmas Eve night and linger into Christmas morning so caution is advised on area roads. http://www.weather.gov

Last week Cyber Monday kicked off the online shopping season. We want to stress the importance of protecting yourself from a crime epidemic sweeping the nation called Package Theft or Porch Piracy. An estimated 36% of online shoppers in the US have reported a missing or stolen package. Last year packages worth approximately $9 billion were stolen or went missing.... Here are 7 ways you can protect yourself from package theft: 1. Have packages delivered to your workplace or office If work deliveries are not possible, consider shipping to a neighbor or family member you know will be home to receive the delivery. 2. Require signature on delivery If you’re not home the package will be available for you to pick up at the delivery service’s facility. 3. Use Amazon or UPS counter pickup Amazon has partnered with retailers like GNC and Health Mart Pharmacies and UPS’s Access Point program partners with CVS, Michaels and Advance Auto Parts to provide package pickup at tens of thousands of retail locations across the country. See the Amazon and UPS links below to find a safe, convenient package pickup location: Amazon Pickup Locations - https://www.amazon.com/gp/css/account/address/view.html UPS Access Point Locations - https://www.ups.com//indi/ups-access-point-deliveries.page 4. Use Amazon Hub Locker Amazon also offers customers the choice to ship your package to a secure Amazon Locker for pickup, thousands of these package lockers have been installed across the country. The attached Amazon link will help you find a convenient location near you: Amazon Hub Locker 5. Sign up for alerts When you place an order, sign up for alerts and know when your package arrives and ask a neighbor or friend to pick it up for you. 6. Pick up packages in person Fed-ex, UPS, Amazon and DHL offer the option of pickup at their shipping facilities. 7. Utilize smart technology Ring or Google Nest smart video doorbells can aid law enforcement in arresting package thieves. Other smart technology like Amazon Key allow delivery drivers to place a package inside your home, garage or even vehicle trunks, providing you have installed smart locks that are compatible with Amazon Key.

Vaccine Fraud Warning Recently the FBI began warning about the increase in Covid-19 Vaccine related fraud and I hope that does not shock or surprise anyone. Criminals have found it is much easier to sit on their rear and do scams and fraud. It seems the Covid-19 vaccine is just one of the most recent targets.... Any attempt to get you or a loved one to purchase early or select access to the vaccine is a scam. Just like the other popular scams where a caller urges you to buy pre-paid or gift cards to keep you out of jail or to help you with your computer they are all scams. We see reports daily where someone falls for these very convincing criminals. I believe for several reasons this is very underreported. The only way I know right now to get an appointment for the Covid vaccine in our area is to contact the District 4 office of the GA Dept of Public Health. The only phone number is 1-800-847-4262. I am hearing this is not easy. There is one phone number for everyone to call. Their advice is to keep calling over and over until you get through. The web site will define who can get the vaccine now (Phase 1a). You may also be able to ask your Primary Care Physician about possible locations and rumor is some pharmacies and immediate care providers will have some availability. I have included a link to the website for District 4 Public Health. https://www.district4health.org/

Hurricane Zeta Update 10/28 1130 AM: Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for Georgia, generally along and to the north of I-85. The core of the storm is fo...recast to pass over the area beginning around midnight tonight into the early morning hours tomorrow. Our primary concerns at this time for these areas are: 1) Wind threat - with saturated soils and many leaves still around, some tree damage will be possible with any falling trees or limbs creating power outages and potentially damaging property. 2) Flash Flooding - heavy rainfall will occur ahead of the system tonight into the morning hours. Soils are saturated and many plants and grasses are going dormant, so water will move quickly into streams, rivers, creeks and other drainage basins. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS. We have seen multiple instances this year of roads being washed away by flood waters this year. Beyond that, we will have a low tornado threat as is the case with any landfalling tropical system. Any tornadoes would be brief and weak. We will continue to update the forecast through the evening.

This Halloween, let’s make happy memories, not tragic nightmares. The only thing scarier than zombies and witches loose on the streets is an impaired driver. This year, NHTSA is teaming up with local officials to help spread the message that Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving. Even one alcoholic beverage could be one too many for some drivers. So, if you plan to drive, plan to refrain from alcohol. If you do plan to enjoy some witch’s brew, be sure to arrange a sober ride home i...n advance. Stay safe on Halloween night, and every night. Read these scary stats and commit to sober driving: During the Halloween nights from 2013-2017, there were 158 people killed in drunk-driving crashes. During the Halloween nights from 2013-2017, 42% of those killed were in traffic crashes that involved at least one drunk driver. During the 2017 Halloween night, there were 11 vehicle occupants and three pedestrians killed in drunk-driving crashes.
