A new whirligig was installed on the Firefly Trail in Winterville today. Local artist Bob Gadd built the whirligig. Another local artist Marisa Mustard painted the tailfin. They both did a fantastic job. Bob's dog Little Martha supervised. Click the link below to see the video. https://youtu.be/nf56A8vuP1E

The groundbreaking ceremony for Chandler Park in Winterville was held this afternoon. This pocket park near the Depot will be a fine tribute to a good man and Winterville citizen, George Chandler. His passion for Winterville and his dedication to service and community will be forever enshrined by Chandler Park. The park will serve as a rest area for citizens and visitors using the Firefly Trail. It is scheduled to be completed by August 2021.
So what is next for the UP portion of the Firefly Trail? The creation of a butterfly garden that will provide both a beautiful spot to enjoy and an educational... experience for the users of the trail! We are very fortunate to have the guidance and expertise of Virginia Linch the creator of the Butterflies and Blooms in the Briar Patch, a butterfly sanctuary in Eatonton. Virginia helped to select the site on the grounds of the Greene County Primary School next to the trail and has drawn up a plan for the garden. To make this garden happen, we need your support. Listed below are the very important larval host plants that the butterflies lay their eggs on and which provide food for the caterpillars. Each type of butterfly has a very specific host plant. We would be very grateful if some of the Friends of the UP Firefly Trail would donate at least one of the plants on the list. If you are willing to do so, please email [email protected] with the plant you will donate. We’ll send you additional details on nurseries that may carry these specific plants and instructions on where and when to deliver the plants. April 10 is planting day! Thank you for your support!
