Fort Stewart / Hunter Army Airfield Fire Emergency Services 05.06.2021

Things got a little "technical" yesterday morning at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield. Crews practiced one of the many skills involved within the technical rescue realm with high air pressure bags. Air bags are used to lift, stabilize or manipulate any heavy load to free an entrapped person safely. This bags are inflated with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders found on every firetruck. These particular bags can lift upwards of 155 tons. This allows rescue crews to move nearly anything that gets in our way. The 3rd Infantry Division has many resources behind the lethal Dog Face Soldiers. The M1Abrams weighs roughly 67+ tons, M2 Bradley 27+ tons and the AH-64 Apache weighing in at roughly 15,000+ lbs. These can be all lifted with the high pressure air bags in an emergency if need be.

This week we had the distinct honor and privilege to host the Hinesville Fire Department's recruit class to conduct live fire training. This recruit class is the first to be internally organized by The City of Hinesville Fire Department. The class consists of 6 new firefighters embarking on a journey to serve their community selflessly and join a unique brotherhood. During the training, they were taught the different stages of fire growth, how to properly identify the seat ...(location) of the fire, extinguishing techniques and observe flow paths of air when a fire is ventilated. This type of training was invaluable as they were taught by their Captains of what fire could potentially do in a controlled environment. Ultimately this will prepare the recruits and demonstrate effective teamwork in the future when every second counts. Good luck recruit class 001!
