#OTD in 1949 Jackie Cochran flew her P-51C Mustang to an FAI world record breaking speed of 437.06 miles per hour and a U.S. National record of 436.995 miles pe...r hour! She was later awarded the first of three Distinguished Flying Crosses for this series of flight records.
