Volunteers Needed for Georgia Reading Radio Service Friends, we need more volunteers for the Georgia Radio Reading Service (GaRRS). We are a radio station that broadcasts 24/7 to people who are visually impaired or print impaired. Volunteers record magazines, newspapers, and books for our listeners. No broadcast experience needed. Before Covid-19, most volunteers came into our recording booths located in the GPB Building. However, now our office and booths are closed to every...one except essential employees. Therefore, we are now seeking volunteers who are willing to learn to record remotely. We provide some training. The volunteer commitment is either one or two hours weekly. We also have a few opportunities that require two hours at a time 2 or 3 times a month. Readers must successfully complete an audio reading audition which takes about 20 minutes. The audition includes a 100-word pronunciation test, a short newspaper article, and a short fictional excerpt. If interested please fill out a volunteer application here: https://garrs.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer/ Thank you!

Happy 40th birthday, GaRRS! Here is a remembrance from Jack Gilson who was a member of the initial Board of Trustees: "While I don't necessarily feel like a dinosaur, when I look back on my involvement with the Georgia Radio Reading Service, I realize I've been associated with this wonderful organization for over 40 years. Starting with being on the initial planning committee with the late Jim Cashin, to many years since serving on the Board of Directors, I know what a well-r...un and much-needed entity GaRRS is to those listeners throughout Georgia. So please consider parting with a few of your dollars to help support the great work that the staff and volunteers of GaRRS do everyday to bring the printed word to those deserving people who depend on it." A big thank you to Jack and all of our volunteers over the last 40 years. Please consider a donation of $40 in honor of our volunteers past and present who keep GaRRS on the air! https://connect.clickandpledge.com//f31c6062-1742-4cd0-ab6 See more

Happy 40th birthday, GaRRS! One of our listeners, Phil Jones, tells us what GaRRS means to him: "I am so proud! As a listener, what Garrs has meant and still means to me is so hard to put into words! I can truly say that because of GaRRS my world is big, open, and wide! So many books, so many magazines, so many newspapers, all of which those of us who are blind and visually impaired didn’t have access to until GaRRS came along! I am so thankful for GaRRS and the super service it provides!" Thanks to all of our listeners and volunteers for supporting us for 40 years! Consider donating $40 to keep us on the air for another 40 years: https://connect.clickandpledge.com//f31c6062-1742-4cd0-ab6
