In 2019, the National Geographic Society will be hosting a Summer Institute for middle school teachers from across North America. The National Geographic 2019 Summer Institute will be held Monday, July 15 - Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Jackson Campus of the Teton Science Schools in Jackson, Wyoming. During the institute, National Geographic will train selected educators to be facilitators of in-person outreach and professional development for National Geographic Educator Ce...rtification (https://goo.gl/HTZNUm) and the Geo-Inquiry Process (https://goo.gl/zNhyuX). Throughout the week educators will spend time reviewing adult learning principles, learning more about National Geographic Society’s educational values, and becoming expert facilitators. National Geographic will cover the cost of all food, accommodations, and transportation for educators teachers during the institute. Participation in the summer institute is the first step in a partnership with the National Geographic Society. For the commitment to National Geographic and this initiative, each educator will receive a $600.00 stipend paid in installments over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year. GEOG 4600 Italy, Croatia, and the Adriatic Sea May 29 to June 6, 2019... 3 credit hours (undergraduate or graduate) also for non-credit Description: This course is a study of the diverse cultures and landscapes of Italy and Europe’s Balkan Peninsula, seen primarily through the lens of cities along the Adriatic Sea’s serpentine coastline. Our exploration will include stops in Rome and ancient Pompeii before crossing the Adriatic by ferry to Durrës, Albania and on to Budva, Montenegro and Dubrovnik, Croatia. Highlights: Tour of ancient and modern-day Rome (with stops at the Pantheon, Colosseum, Roman Forum, St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican); visit to the Roman City of Pompeii; Krujë Castle (Albania), ancient walled city of Kotor (Montenegro) and St. Trypon Cathedral; medieval city of Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Franciscan and Dominican monasteries; ferry to Hvar. There are still seats available for Georgia teachers who wish to attend the 2018 NHD Georgia Teacher Workshop. The workshop, now in it’s sixth year, provides teachers with a variety of tools they can use to empower NHD in their classroom. It also immerses them in the NHD process. The workshop convenes on the campus of LaGrange College July 15-19 and regular registration for this year’s workshop closes June 1.
