ICYMI, here's the January 31st Sunday Sesh link round-up! We shared some resources to help you see exactly what Google thinks about your online activity (AKA how you’re marketed certain products), learn how to tackle to-do’s based on your working style, discover actual technology that will help you disappear from a taking-too-damn-long Zoom meeting and so much more, take a peek! https://ckarchive.com/b/68ueh8hrgrrl

What comes to mind when you hear "brand strategy"? Just so you know, a few ideas, a color palette, and a logo ain't it. A "brand" in itself is kind of abstract, which is why it can be hard to define. But overall, your brand strategy encompasses what your brand stands for. It's also the promises your brand makes to your customers. But we get it, when you're trying to get paid for being great at solving the problem you solve in the special way you solve it, your "brand strate...gy" may not be the first thing that pops up in your head! If you're feeling like where you started is different than where you're at or you're just getting started and want to start on the right track, here's some mini homework to help you come up with a strategic plan for your brand: Define what your brand stands for. What problems does it solve? How does it make your customers feel? Define the promises your brand makes to customers. Why should customers trust you? Define the personality your brand conveys through its marketing. If your brand was a person, what would its personality be like? Craft the right message. Study your target audience so that you can speak to them as your brand in a way that's familiar and builds trust. Want a little help? You know we love this type of stuff! Sign up for our FREE 5-day email course/on-demand coaching hybrid. Session Three is all about Brand Discovery and we'll show you EXACTLY how we tackle these things! https://bit.ly/GWGContentStrategy21

Do you feel like you're cooking up the kind of content your audience really wants to consume? Brands that do a good job of creating delicious content have one not-so-secret secret they're just really good at research! You know, you can find out a whole bunch of shit if you just ask folks what they're into! If your content is more on the TV Dinner side of things than what you'd consider gourmet, go back to the basics! Put your data scientist hat on and conduct some audienc...e research. If you want some guidance on how to do this, you know we've got you! Sign up for our FREE email mini-course/on-demand coaching hybrid because we definitely cover this kind of stuff on Day Two! With our guidance, you'll be studying your audience in no time like you're an investigative journalist. We also provide tips to help you build a blueprint of your ideal customer (AKA your Customer Avatar). There are five sessions in the series altogether Content Goals, Audience Discovery, Brand Discovery, Content Planning, and Engagement Strategies all delivered to your inbox via on-demand coaching sessions with Porsha Thomas. Sound like a plan? Well, hurry up now. Signup! http://bit.ly/GWGContentStrategy21

Nobody: You: "What the EFF should I share on social, in my emails, and well...everywhere to market my business?!" If nobody else feels you, girl, we feel you! Planning content to market your business can be overwhelming, stressful, and 1000% paralyzing. So many of our clients come to us looking for help because they've been creating content for the wrong audience (experiencing little to no engagement), don't have a sales/marketing goal attached (no strategy), or because they ...just don't know where to start. If you're a member of the Great Marketing Intentions Club meaning you set aside time to spit out marketing content but end up staring at your screen the whole time and just accepting that there will be crickets on your marketing channels this week - stop it. We've got a plan for you. How would you feel about some free guidance to help you build-out your 2021 content strategy in 5 days? Yes, for real and for free. We'll show you how to figure out who you should be talking to, where they're at, and what to say to them to convince them your product or service is the best thing since sliced bread. We're doing all of that via a 5-day mini-course delivered straight to your inbox. Register by tapping the link in our bio and you'll receive a snazzy workbook along with your on-demand coaching sessions with brand strategist and GWG founder, Porsha Thomas. That's right, on-demand so once you get the goods, you can watch them time and again! Sign up now so you can get started! https://gowrkgrls.ck.page/2021-content-plan

Elevator pitch is like, We make outerwear for bad bitches with a ‘thing’ for powered blue. You've gotta give the people what they want! Standing out among the crowd is easier to do when you know what your customers like, need, and you're able to convey the features and benefits of your brand in a way they can understand.... Start by having a crystal clear idea of who you want to target. Where do they live? What do they do for a living? What kind of books are they into? Do they Netflix or do they Hulu? Understand the value of what you're selling and be able to communicate how you stand out from your competitors. Come up with a content strategy to position yourself as *the* solution to your customers' problems. Use email marketing as a tool to build customer relationships.

Ahhhh, yes. "That" client. The client you only accepted because you needed the money. The client who asked for a discount off the rip. The client who will "know it when they see it". The client whose cousin designed their logo and they just want your opinion (aka to agree with them) on how it looks...for free. Got some nightmare client stories? Let's talk shit but not name names.

We did it, gang! After literal years of finding my way and months (and months) of iterations, I'm excited to share GOWRKGRLS 2.0, as I've been calling it. ...Does that show my age? Is that like, an early internet thing? Anyway, for starters, mega THANK YOU to all of you ladies who hang with us during happy hours, read our emails, take our workshops, answer our surveys, and give us honest feedback because, without you, we wouldn't be right here. So what's... new? For one thing, our website. Go check it out, it's SO f*cking cute. Next thing, our offerings! You know you've always been able to come to us to develop your business skills with our workshops and things, but now we're crossing over to the consulting world to help you ladies with strategic planning for your sales, branding, and marketing. With entrepreneurs who are just starting out or making a big pivot in mind, we created three new programs: DIY Branding Strategy, DIY Marketing Strategy, and Launch Lab (branding, marketing, and sales strategy). Our strategic planning programs take place virtually and are limited to 10 participants at a time. Each program lasts between 4-5 weeks and includes weekly workshops led by The Council (head to the "About" page on our site to see who we're werking with ), hands-on group planning sessions, unlimited Slack + Marco Polo access, plus boozy hang-out or show and tell sessions so you can share your progress with your peers and receive feedback. Each program includes a custom birth chart analysis to see how the planets aligned to help you business lady better. OK, that was a lot so TLDR: Our new website is cute AF and now we're offering consulting services to help new and pivoting business owners with planning for sales, branding, and marketing. GOWRKGRLS 29.03.2020

I was the only black student in class from second to fifth grade. I remember wanting to spend the night with white friends and being told by my mom that she didn't want me to get hurt because "they don't want your little black butt on their white sheets." (Can you imagine having to tell a seven-year-old that and also being a seven-year-old trying to comprehend that?) I remember feeling embarrassed in P.E. class because the products in my hair left greasy spots on the mats and... the white kids would poke fun at that. I remember having burritos for dinner at one of these sleepovers my mom wanted to protect me from, and my friend's dad commenting that my burrito-rolling skills were so great, maybe I'd "grow up and work at Taco Bell one day!" Those experiences made me feel inadequate. I always thought our house was never big enough (it was totally fucking fine) and our cars weren't expensive enough. I was constantly comparing myself to my white classmates and in high school, I made sure to project an image that in my mind would deem me "equal" wearing name-brand clothing, flipping my straight hair at the bottom like a 60's pop-star, and driving a brand new, cute AF little sports car. What teenage me couldn't understand is that that bullshit doesn't make you equal. But I needed those experiences so that mid-30's me could advocate for authenticity and self-sustainability by way of entrepreneurship. No need for comparison, Little Porsha, you can be comfortable with yourself and start your own shit! And guess what? GOWRKGRLS is having a whole real-ass convo about it on Saturday, June 20th with Atlanta Contemporary. Museum of Modern Perspective's MR PAUL, The Everyday Creative's Sydia Bell and Movement Consulting's Nicole Cabrera Salazar will join me on Zoom between 12-2P to discuss how they've created space for their authenticity and advocated for themselves to build careers that are self-sustaining. Save the date and stay tuned. We'll be posting RSVP info soon. See more

Hi, y'all! It's me, Porsha Thomas, founder of GOWRKGRLS, DIY business queen, lover of food, wine, wellness, True Crime and most things pink. Happy International Women’s Day to all the boss bitches who follow this page! I wanted to jump on the social mediums today and show my proud/happy face (as captured by Kelley Raye) because this pic is a perfect summary of my feelings creating this space because I've met lots and lots of amazing women along the way. I spent some time ...revisiting GOWRKGRLS' origin story this week (I wrote a long-ass piece about it, you can read it if you join GWG. It's part of our new member Welcome email series! https://www.gowrkgrls.io/join-gowrkgrls) not the cute part that marks Ladyprener League's fun + exciting beginnings in 2014, the down and dirty part that marks when the bottom fell out way back in 2012. Aside from viewing the situation with my 2020 hindsight vision (and being like, yep, all that bullshit was very necessary), I realized I've been so caught up in working on the business, I kind of forgot why I started it. Not like I forgot my mission here, but I forgot the feelings that brought me here. I forgot how lost I felt as a first-time business owner trying to figure it out for herself and how devastated I felt when shit went wrong and I "failed" ("failed" because failure is just confirmation that you should rethink your strategy). I forgot how desperately I was seeking a community of equally ambitious women who could help me navigate the 'small business owner' landscape. In 2020, it's a real thing. I'm grateful for allll of that aforementioned bullshit that led me to this place and especially grateful for the women in my life who inspire me to try and do great things every damn day. But for no other reason than just because I'm curious - if you've been in business for a while now, how often do you sit with why you started? Any other tactics you use to help you gain clarity?

I'm an idea woman who's not afraid to act. That probably sounds exciting, but it doesn't always work out the way I think it's going to. One thing I'm most proud of and that makes me "bossy" is that I'm not afraid to pivot and switch things up. Being able to admit when your life and business decisions aren't working, and then doing something about it, is a big boss move. If you feel that your inner boss is struggling, or you're stuck in a place in your career where it's hard to move, look to your community! Just like my shirt says, we're focused on getting #MoreWomenLeading. Forté Foundation does this by motivating boss chicks like us to meet mentors and hear from role models, and by providing a pathway to build up our boss lives with hands-on, programs and resources. Cheers to being bossy! - Porsha Thomas, CEO #ad

Funny how that works, isn't it? One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned on my entrepreneurial journey is that you can definitely get what you want/manifest/feel you deserve, but the path probably isn’t going to be as smooth sailing as you’d like it to be. That’s been my experience anyway! Back when I was riding the train to work every day and feeling sick the whole way, all I could think about was waking up, working out, and working from home in my über cute Virginia-Highla...nd apartment I was in love with. I spent so many days focusing on if only. "If only I could work from this apartment that I’m never in, but paying for, I’d be happier." Not true. I was able to live that exact dream for a few short months before shit got shook up, my anxiety kicked in, and I needed to rely on my community to move/find a situation my new budget fit in. After those adjustments, I can say it’s *nothing* like I imagined, but here I am damn near a year later waking up, working out and working from home. But insert a different neighborhood, a roommate, and a much cuter apartment. All factors I didn't plan on (or want, reallywell...minus the newer apartment) in February. I say all this to say, you’ll get there. Just not the way you think. - Porsha Thomas

As a working woman, what are some of the ways you invest in yourself and your business? For me personally, it’s by building community...annnd by investing in software to help my business run more smoothly (shout out to Coschedule and HoneyBook for making the business marketing and client management aspects of my life so much easier!). There are so many things I love about being part of communities like @fortefoundation and building the #GOWRKGRLS community, but my favorite ha...s to be having the ability to tap these communities to find women (and menif you haven’t already, check out @fortefoundation’s Men as Allies campaign) who can help me hack the issues I’m experiencing in business. Many a #GOWRKGRLS workshop sprung from problems either I or members of our community were looking for solutions to! And as the saying goes, knowledge is power. Whether it’s a @fortefoundation webinar or #GOWRKGRLS event, the end result is always me learning something I can use to help my freelance clients or spruce up my own front yard here at GOWRKGRLS. So here’s your to-do: Join communities you value! Tap this link to learn more about communing with more women like you: https://linktr.ee/gowrkgrls. #ad #MoreWomenLeading

Have you ever thought about something you want to do and then immediately start to talk yourself out of it? And not like, "I want to join a board, but I'm too busy." I'm talking about an instance where this next thing could be the thing that gets you to another level in your business, or career, or wherever this applies in your life. On today's Tuesday Sesh, I'm talking about telling that whisper of doubt (aka the bitch in your head) to quiet down. Granted, it's trying to protect you from a perceived threat (cough cough, failure), but like the saying says, not getting what you want isn't always a bad thing. So why not go for it? Head here to check out our picks this week: http://bit.ly/2JiZBph and join the "pushing past fear" convo in Slack: http://bit.ly/2X8g7lm!

Love and fully support this. And that’s why you’ll hear me (Porsha Thomas) talking about real entrepreneurial shit at #GOWRKGRLS events. If you know me, you know the story: I’ve ignored warning signs and selected terrible people to work with (terrible for me, that is), have been ousted out of a business I started, been hella late with rent payments and evicted from apartments, broken up with for being too career-driven, car-less for 7 years because it was originally re...possessed (at first I was sad, then I was like, fuck it, it’s cheaper this way, and then ride-sharing became a thing so, ) all in the name of entrepreneurship. It took me YEARS to get comfortable telling this story but it’s mine, and it created this woman and this community right here! So tell your truths, y’all. Because #entrepreneurship is hard! We can’t have people out here thinking it’s all flat-lays of your workspace and pics of your coffee cups and shit. See more
