Habersham County Canning Plant 29.04.2021

Good afternoon everyone! We are approaching the end of the canning season. After Oct. 5, we will no longer be open on Mondays. We will just be open on Tuesday from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm and Thursdays from 7:00 am-12:00 pm. Our last day of operation for this season is Oct. 22, 2020.

Overview Monitor equipment and perform routine tasks in food-processing to assist in canning and preserving such foods as meats, vegetables, fruits, jams, jellies, preserves, pickles, and soups. Duties Performs any combination of following tasks to can, preserve, or pack food products: ... 1) Dumps or places food products in hopper or on a sorting table. 2) Sorts or grades products according to size, color, or quality. 3) Feeds products into processing equipment, such as washing, peeling, coring, pitting, trimming, grinding, dicing, cooking, or slicing machines. 4) Counts or tallies processed items according to specifications. 5) Inspects filled jars/cans to ensure the product conforms to quality standards. 6) Loads, moves, or stacks containers by hand or hand truck. Requirements Employees will be expected to work from 6:45 am until the canning plant closes and is cleaned and product finished processing (usually 2:00-3:00 pm, but the finishing hours will vary) on Mondays and Thursdays from now until the end of October. You must be able to lift at least 40 pounds. Be willing to wear a mask and gloves. Enjoy working with the community. Be able to tolerate warm humid environments. Have a basic knowledge of cooking. Must be at least 18 years of age
