We are blessed to serve a God that has been kind enough to give us a memory. See, memory is a good thing. In Ephesians 2, Paul, dealing with his memories says this - remember that you were at a time without Christ. There is danger in recalling only the good memories as you will begin to play God and in a sense believe that you are in control. The great memories bring us laughter, joy and happiness; but remember WHEN. We are made up of more than just results and we are to...ugh enough to endure what may come our way. Once you acknowledge the journey then you know God. See God is not the final destination but HE is the journey. God works, grinds and meets us along the journey - in the process. Fr. Patterson shared that on this Ash Wednesday we are called in this moment to talk about a different kind of love. A deep and abiding love. One that we recognize needs work...yes - that GOD LOVE. During this Lenten season God is calling us to pause and fill up. He’s calling us to look into our souls and explore the things that need to be changed, find the things that will strengthen us and make us better. Have you been committed?... Give it to God Have you fallen short? Give it to God Have you not been a good friend? Give it to God This is the season to strip ourselves of the things we think matter and focus on what truly does. Have you ever had the I got the blues used? It hurts doesn’t it? It tears you apart and can rip your insides out - to know that your vulnerability was violated by one whom you cared for. King Herod told the wise men to go and tell him where this Baby Jesus is...yes he tried to use them; but they took another road. The way that God works is transforming and he pointed them in a different direction. See their minds were changed because they were in the presence of TRUTH. I...t’s important that we recognize the TRUTH-the prophecy and the presence. This requires you to know where you come from and know why you’re here. You cannot get to the TRUTH if God is not present. The God that calls for you to be accountable, the God that calls you to the valley and brings you back up.
