Earlier today, former Coroner, Jerry Bridges was sentenced to prison for 43 counts of theft. Many are wondering what now, especially with Cedar Ridge Cemetery which Mr. Bridges has to relinquish all control of. The sentence also included that the Georgia Secretary of State's office would appoint a receiver to manage the cemetery temporarily, which we expect will take place soon. However, in the meantime should you or a family member have any business with Cedar Ridge Cemetery please contact us here at the Jones County Sheriff's Office and ask to speak to any of my investigators and we'll put you in touch with someone who can help you......Thanks Sheriff Reece

In July 2019, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit opened an investigation into trafficking in methamphetamine in Jones County. With the cooperation of the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, the United States Marshal Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Georgia Department of Corrections, and Gray Police Department, Ruth Monje, Jose Zepeda, Yesica Garcia, and Erika Alvarenga were all arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine. The inve...stigation continued, and with the assistance of Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, additional arrests were made after heroin, methamphetamine, and weapons were discovered at a residence in Clayton County. Jones County Investigators were able to determine Monje, Garcia, and Zepeda were in contact with individuals out of the Savannah who were transporting large quantities of methamphetamine from Mexico to the Savannah area. Jones County Investigators reached out to state and federal authorities with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). After a yearlong investigation and cooperation from multiple agencies in the Middle and South Georgia areas, ATF released a 40 count indictment from Operation Stranded Bandit. On Thursday, December 3, 2020, the Southern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney, Bobby L. Christine, released the following announcing the charges of 64 individuals. https://www.justice.gov//more-60-defendants-charged-series

I am very thankful, joyful and mighty relieved today because earlier this morning two of my deputies were shot at while initially investigating a DUI. Around 3:30a.m. Sgt. Travis Walker saw a silver Honda Accord on the south end of the county and was finally able to get the car stopped at the entrance of Bowden Golf Course. The driver, 31 year old Dustin James Parham became overly hostile with Sgt. Walker but fortunately Deputy Harden arrived to assist. When both officers we...re alerted to a gun that Parham had, he took off in his car, busted the gate to the golf course and immediately circled back around charging back toward the officers as he was firing at them through his windshield. One of his rounds struck Sgt. Walkers windshield as he was trying to go after Parham. The deputies momentarily lost Parham when he drove his car behind the home of an acquaintance, but they stayed with it and located the house where he was hiding a few minutes later. Thanks to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for promptly responding and together Parham was captured and brought back to Jones County along with his car. When executing a search warrant on his car, Investigators discovered a number of illegal drugs which probably explains his violent behavior. He is charged with Aggravated Assault on my two deputies, a host of drug charges and any thing else I can think of this weekend. I want to thank both Walker and Harden for their courage, and commitment to Jones County but more importantly I’m thankful that both Walker and Harden went home this morning.......Sheriff Reece

On Thursday Night around 10:45.m., Sgt. Travis Walker noticed a white Nissan registered to Deandre Pitts on the south side of the county, and who's license were suspended. Sgt. Walker briefly lost site of the vehicle as it moved in between Jones and Bibb County but spotted the car again as it passed through our County. While out with Pitts during the traffic stop, Sgt. Walker smelled Marijuana coming from the car and after, the passenger Jerell Holland decided he didn't wan...t to stay around and took off on foot. Not to smart having just given his ID to Sgt. Walker, but Holland was quickly captured soon after by deputies Matthew Johnson and Bradley James who had arrived to assist Sgt. Walker. To explain their suspicious behavior, Deputies found trafficking amounts of Cocaine, MDMA or ecstacy, Marijuana, cash and a firearm. Both Pitts and Holland are charged.
