Louisville Bypass US 1 project update... Check out the latest status on the widening and reconstruction of US 1 (Louisville Bypass) from north of Nimrod Road to... Clarks Mill Road totaling 2.85 miles. New traffic signal installation has begun at both intersections (Middleground/US1, SR24/US1) but will remain covered and inactive until later in the project. Currently, we are grading, placing graded aggregate base, installing/relocating utilities including gas, water, sanitary sewers and storm drainage. Once utilities are out of the way, progress should really ramp up. The contractor plans to begin paving this month, beginning at the south end moving to SR17 on the right side of the project. This paving operation has not yet been determined and approved, but we anticipate intermittent lane closures with no traffic shifts until informed otherwise. Sheriff Gary Hutchins, Chief Deputy Tim Moore and their staff would like to thank the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association (USDSA) for donating much neede...d equipment to our agency. The organization receives donations and then buys equipment for smaller, rural law enforcement agencies that can't afford the equipment. The USDSA donated -4- handheld alcohol testers and -2- spike strips valued at almost $4000 total. We appreciate our partnership with the USDSA! See more

Hurricane Zeta Update 10/28 1130 AM: Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for Georgia, generally along and to the north of I-85. The core of the storm is fo...recast to pass over the area beginning around midnight tonight into the early morning hours tomorrow. Our primary concerns at this time for these areas are: 1) Wind threat - with saturated soils and many leaves still around, some tree damage will be possible with any falling trees or limbs creating power outages and potentially damaging property. 2) Flash Flooding - heavy rainfall will occur ahead of the system tonight into the morning hours. Soils are saturated and many plants and grasses are going dormant, so water will move quickly into streams, rivers, creeks and other drainage basins. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS. We have seen multiple instances this year of roads being washed away by flood waters this year. Beyond that, we will have a low tornado threat as is the case with any landfalling tropical system. Any tornadoes would be brief and weak. We will continue to update the forecast through the evening.

Tropical Storm Zeta is forecast to become a hurricane in The Gulf of Mexico and make landfall on the Northern Gulf Coast Wednesday. Moisture from Zeta's remnants is forecast to impact The Midlands and CSRA Wednesday Night through Thursday with showers and thunderstorms. The first time the Greek alphabet was used due to extreme tropical activity in one season was in 2005 when we had historic storms like Katrina and Rita. That year, there was a total of 27 named storms with Zeta being the last. Zeta is the 6th name on the Greek list. That was the last named storm in 2005. Hurricane season runs through the end of November, so if there is another named storm this year, it will be called Eta.
