This year is definitely a December to Remember. Due to COVID, we had to push back our May Dinner, but we finally got to celebrate the 2019-2020 League Year last Tuesday at our December meeting! Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2019-2020 League year a success! Congratulations to our 2019-2020 Pillar Award Winner, Whitley Miller , our Sustainer Pillar Award Winner, Rhonda Thompson, and the President’s Award Winner, Erin Nicholson Webb.

Members participated in a volunteer day this past Saturday at the Beulah Rucker Museum. League members helped paint the exterior of the museum and worked on interior restoration projects. Beulah Rucker was born to slaves and she learned the alphabet by studying the newspapers that were plastered on the walls of her home for warmth. During a time when many schools did not allow black students to attend, Beulah Rucker Oliver purchased a site near the Southern Railroad Crossing in downtown Gainesville and she established an Industrial School. We are honored to have helped with the preservation efforts of this historic site.

What a great way to kick off our Done-In-A-Day program! Junior League members mask-araded as sewing asistants to partner with the United Way of Hall County to make mask kits to be sewn and distributed to those in need this weekend. These seven women made mask kits that will make more than 225 masks! Done-In-A-Day is a service project created by the Junior League to serve partnering organizations with labor to accomplish projects throughout the year. Know of an organization in need? Let us know!

Today kicks off #GaPreKWeek! As a 2020 partner with Georgia Pre-K Week, we will be raising awareness about the importance of quality education at a young age in our children.
