Starting today 8/4 thru 8/5 the John Ward Creek bridge will be closed while construction crews are onsite to shore up the current Ward Creek Bridge foundation. The area has been marked with closure signs, and flagmen will be posted during the bridge closure time. Please stay out of the area during the next two days. This bridge is located on the Kolb Farm East Trail. Please see project description and pass along, thanks.... The existing bridge sits over the eastern John Ward Creek crossing on the six mile loop trail. The bridge's foundation has been jeopardized due to extreme bank erosion, putting the entire bridge at risk. Horseback riders are required to cross downstream through a steep bank cut, producing parallel trails, increasing bank erosion and contributing to stream degradation. This project will stabilize the creek bed by the bridge foundations, significantly improving visitor safety, reducing erosion and stream degradation. The Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club held a work day on 11/14/20 in conjunction with several members of the KSU Cross Country Team. It was a great day for a hike as well as getting a lot of general maintenance done on the Brumby trail section. It was such a beautiful day that I spent more time taking in the scenery than getting photographs of their work effort. I apologize for that. And, as always, the park visitors were very appreciative of the work done by the KSU students, as attested to by the comments received from the many visitors during the work day.

Photo taken 9/14/16. Every 5 years, the Marietta Kiwanis Club has hosted the Field of Flags event at Kennesaw Mountain. In the field in front of our Visitor Center, 2,977 American flags, one for every life lost in 9/11, have been erected by local community members. As we pause today to remember those who died on 9/11/2001, let us also remember their families and all of the men and women who gave their time to participate in the rescue and recovery effort and ... and especially those who are now suffering the aftereffects of their efforts.
