Indian Springs State Park 07.05.2021

Answer time: It’s their scent! This is the Carolina laurel cherry, whose bark smells like cherries, and a cherry millipede, a family of millipedes that release defensive chemicals (which smell like cherries) to ward off predators. Ah, the smells of nature!

On March 31, 1933, the Emergency Conservation Work Act (later popularly known at the Civilian Conservation Corp or C.C.C.) was signed into action by President Roosevelt. This was the beginning of 9 years of incredible work on the nation's resources and infrastructure. Here at Indian Springs, we are incredibly grateful for the work the CCC 'boys' did here at the park in constructing our stone buildings and bridge. They've certainly left a legacy here!

Tomorrow is Your State Parks Day! It is a chance to get outdoors, volunteer, and enjoy your local state park. Volunteers can help keep Indian Springs beautiful by collecting trash around the lake, picnic areas, and trails. Stop by the visitor center and pick up a trash bag and grabbers (limited supply) between 8 AM and 4 PM. See you soon!
