We now have a Facebook group! This is a place to share stories about Liberty County's diverse history and genealogy, and to make connections to learn more. The LC Historical Society does not have physical archives, so this is the place to ask questions and benefit from the collective memory and records of our members. All are welcome! Check out this article about the company that makes the markers we erect on our county. The markers are our way of helping to educate the public about the history of our wonderful county.

TO OUR DISMAY, HOUSE BILL 906 HAS PASSED THE FULL HOUSE AND WILL NOW MOVE TO THE SENATE. This bill, the Conveyance of Heritage Preserve Properties, is a threat ...to many local heritage areas -- such as Ossabaw Island, Little Tybee Island and Wormsloe Historic Site to name a few -- and HSF urges our senators to vote NO on it. The Georgia Heritage Trust Program protects heritage areas in Georgia that exhibit unique natural characteristics, special historical significance or particular recreational values. HB 906 would allow the DNR to remove up to 15 acres from a state heritage preserve and sell to a willing county or local government or private entity. A proposed amendment seeks to add private entity" to that list, which could mean a person, business, corporation, etc. This bill applies to over 335,000 acres of protected Heritage Preserve Properties -- a total of 122 sites across Georgia. Anyone who cares about these important lands can take action to protect them by emailing your state senators in the next few days and encouraging them to vote NO on this bill.
