To: Ann Adkisson, Just a note to thank you again for being on your judging panel. You ran excellent shows with large, adequate rings and good stewards. The lunches were delicious. Please share my thoughts with the entire club. Best wishes for the future. Sincerely, Jerry Watson

The Crossroads of Georgia Cluster regrets to announce the cancellation of our rescheduled 2020 show weekend, June 11 14. Our show committee has worked hard over the last few weeks to reorganize this show, so this decision was not made lightly. While the state of Georgia is one of the first to reopen, we are facing a tremendous number of unknowns about our Governor's policies and requirements to host large gatherings at indoor venues in the coming weeks. The decision was made to cancel before the premium was published and entry fees were accepted. The Crossroads of Georgia Cluster is looking forward to the future and plans to hold our show on the 19th weekend in May in 2021. We appreciate your support as we move forward in these unusual times.

An informed puppy buyer will naturally ask the breeder of a potential new family member about the health testing the parents had before the litter was born. But... before you buy a puppy, be sure to check the OFA website (www.ofa.org) to verify the health test results that the breeder has given you. Testing is breed specific in other words, different breeds have different health concerns, and therefore should have different tests! The parent clubs for each breed determines what conditions in that breed are those for which all breeding stock should be tested. For instance, the Golden Retriever Club of America says that all Golden sires and dams should have hip and elbow evaluations, an eye exam by a board certified ophthalmologist, and a cardiac exam at age 12 months or older by a veterinary cardiologist. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America recommends that all breeding stock have an eye exam by a board certified ophthalmologist at 1, 3 and 6 years of age (at a minimum) and also have a patellar luxation exam by a qualified veterinarian, at 12 months of age or older for OFA certification. Testing recommended for each breed can be found on the OFA website. From the home page just click on Tests by Breed, or follow this link: http://www.ofa.org/breedtests.html?btnSearch=Tests+by+Breed Responsible breeders will never object to a buyer asking about health testing. Again, be sure to verify that the sire and dam of your potential new pup have had the tests required by visiting the OFA website. All you need is the sire and dam’s registration number (whether an AKC number, Canadian Kennel Club number or a number from another registry) or the dog’s OFA or CHIC number. If you need help, just give us a call at 573-442-0418 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central time. We’re happy to help!

"The legislation reads that the Georgia General Assembly recognizes the benefits and contributions of purebred dogs to the state of Georgia as well as the dedicated individuals who develop and breed these dogs. The legislation refers to pure bred dogs as living legacies of the cultures that created them and breeds work alongside humans as guide dogs, service dogs, conservation dogs, livestock guardians, search and rescue dogs, earth dogs, police dogs, canine soldiers serving by the sides of our military men and women, and guardians of family, home, and hearth.
