Thank goodness for husbands that take on the world for you. I couldn’t make it into my mom's house, so he’s moving everything while I work on the farm website to escape for a little while. I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers they were a comfort last night.
Finally getting the hang of egg photography.
I know everybody was wanting an update on the little incubating experiment we were doing. We are currently on day eight, and I decided to candle the light cream-colored eggs. I did not candle the Marans or the olive eggers because they are harder to the candle. We saw three embryos on the light cream-colored eggs, so they are developing. There are two that did not develop out of the five. They just didn’t develop. It’s like they didn’t even start to grow. Now I don’t know if ...those would’ve been male embryos or if they just weren’t viable. The eggs did come from the same hen, and she has had an excellent record of having viable eggs that have hatched. The eggs were collected for seven days and put in the refrigerator at 40F from Sunday to Sunday. I took them out on Sunday morning and let them come back to room temperature, and then Sunday night, we put them in the incubator. I will give an update on day 14 to let everybody know how it’s going, and then I plan on providing a full update on day 21 when they hatch. I did find this experiment from @fresheggsdaily. Her books are my Bible when it comes to dealing with anything with chickens. She has great products, great books, and ample information, so I highly recommend looking at her page. See more
