Please join the CT Vivian Male Scholars Program as our young men discuss recent events impacting African American communities across the country. The C.T. Vivian Male Scholars Program consists of a group of men ("Elders') who have engaged with a group of young African American males (ages 6yrs-yrs) each Saturday for the last 10 years. Our weekly program is free and takes place at The Lang Carson Recreation Center at 100 Flat Shoals Avenue, in Atlanta, Georgia. (We are current...ly meeting by ZOOM until further notice.) Please know, our program is intentionally not a "mentorship" program. Instead, our Elders seek to model the much broader role of influence assumed by a "Jegna," as that African term has been defined by Dr. Wade Nobles in his book, "African Psychology." In this way, our Elders seek to heal, instruct and inspire by "synthesizing our wisdom from life long experiences and formulating this into a legacy" for our young men. Our Elders see ourselves in each of our young men. And we pray that our attention towards each of them provide each of them with the wisdom to see themselves beyond each of us. Our discussion this Saturday at noon will be broadcast live, but it will take place on ZOOM. As such, while we welcome and encourage your comments and questions during the broadcast, we anticipate that only a fraction of them will be discussed real time. We are excited to include several special guests in our discussions, including Atlanta's own Patrick Labat, former Chief of the City of Atlanta's Department of Corrections and current candidate for Sherif for Fulton County, Georgia, Kenneth Nunn, Professor of Law at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and the Honorable Mr. Walter Roban, the Deputy Premier of the Country of Bermuda.
