We've been introducing you to our new team for several days. It's time now to meet our Executive Director, Monica Blood. "Hi, I’m Monica Blood! Though newer to the Georgia area, I come from a small town in Pennsylvania and am grateful to have found such a beautiful community here in Georgia that reminds me of home. "I chose a career path in healthcare 18 years ago as I truly knew that helping others was my passion after losing my Mother to breast cancer as a teenager. My Au...nt, who took over for my Mom, was a Nurse and Nursing Home Administrator whose footsteps I proudly followed. I started in the kitchen of her skilled nursing facility (SNF), later transferring into Activities. I wanted to do more, so I became a CNA like my sister, who also helped me so much along my journey. "As a CNA, I had the pleasure of caring for a former Pennsylvania Governor and his wife in their home while continuing my work in the SNF and also assisting in caring for my Grandfather, who had Alzheimer’s Disease. I knew my journey was still not complete and furthered my education becoming a nurse, graduating as Valedictorian and Class President. "Manor Lake Ellijay is my third start up opportunity in my career and have worked in assisted living for nearly 10 years. I have held positions as Wellness Director, Administrator and Regional Specialist. I had the pleasure of leading a team in Pennsylvania that won a National Quality Award for care-related metrics through the American Healthcare Association and National Center for Assisted Living. We also achieved three consecutive years of deficiency-free state licensure surveys, which is not easy with Pennsylvania regulations. I have a great passion for Alzheimer’s and Dementia care after caring for my Grandfather and have obtained my Certified Dementia Practitioner license to better understand disease process, educate team members and help families of residents. "I truly look forward to being able to provide a much-needed service to the community while partnering with others to create the best option for your loved ones in the East Ellijay and surrounding areas.
