WeeklyDevoHEADER 2 01 Luke 10:20, Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. From the sermon series: Learn from Me...... Jesus speaks these words to His disciples after He had sent them out to proclaim the gospel and do works in His name. When they returned to Him, they were amazed at all they were able to accomplish. The disciples fell into an easy trap. They were so consumed with the things they were able to accomplish, that it seemed to overshadow their purpose for doing those works and distract them from what they had already received through Christ rejoice because your names are written in heaven. We must first recognize that all that we have and are able to do is because of Christ. If we proclaim the gospel to others and they are drawn into a relationship with God, it is because of His power. If we are able to provide pastoral care to someone, it is because of His peace and grace. Knowing that He is the one with authority, who then gives us the opportunity to act in His name and for His glory, we want to remember our calling to continue His mission in proclaiming the good news to all.

Exodus 15:2, The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. From the sermon series: Learn from Me... This verse is part of the song that Moses and God’s people sing to Him in praise of their deliverance from the Egyptians at the Red Sea.... Parallel to the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery and their enemies, we also can reflect on our own deliverance from sin through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Recognizing that we are free from the bondage and eternal consequences of our sin, we can offer our own praise to God. We praise and worship Him for the grace He continually shows, for His love, which was demonstrated most clearly through the sacrifice of His Son, and for the peace that we can feel knowing that we will not have to suffer because of sin.

WeeklyDevoHEADER 2 01 Matthew 7:12, Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. From the sermon series: Learn from Me...... In this last portion of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus instructs His followers on how to treat others. He sets up the Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12 with the explanation that as sinful human beings, even parents know how to give good gifts to their children. God, our Father, who is perfect, will therefore give many good things to those who ask (Matthew 7:9-11). Jesus teaches us to love others as He loves us (John 13:34). We cannot love exactly as God loves because He is the very embodiment of love. It is not an emotion that He turns on or off depending on who He is dealing with God is love and He offers His love freely to all. Because God has shared His life with us through the gift of the Spirit, we can strive and grow to love in the manner that He loves. We grow in this love by treating others in the way we would like to be treated with dignity, grace, inclusion, and care.
