Late yesterday, former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Michael Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third degree murder and second-degree manslaughter of George Floyd almost one year ago. Odyssey is an organization founded on the principles of social justice. Although it will not bring Mr. Floyd back to his loved ones, we are pleased with this outcome. We also realize there is much work left to be done in order for every member of our community to feel protected and served.

Today we want to highlight this amazing family who currently has three scholars enrolled in Odyssey! With help from Bus Stops Here Foundation The North Face, we were able to provide this family with brand new coats for the winter season. We also want to thank the Glenn Institute at Westminster for providing this family with a computer so that they can better connect to their virtual classes.

This week Odyssey is spreading Christmas cheer across Metro-Atlanta with the help from many amazing donors and partners. This weekend, Jeff Cohen, Odyssey's Executive Director, hand delivered gifts to this family who lives below I-20. Hikema shares her experience and advice for those following in her footsteps.

Congratulations Hikema Hussein, Odyssey Scholar since 3rd grade. Today Hikema is a University of Georgia senior, biology major with an emphasis in neuroscience, Discovery Abroad Ambassador, Minority Student Science Association External Relations Chair, and future OBGYN or pediatrician.
