The District L Lions Clubs received a grant through Lions International Foundation to provide low cost Diabetes, Cholesterol, and Triglycerides testing for the community on Saturday, March 27 at the Carrollton Center for the Arts from 12:00-3:00. Masks should be worn and COVID protocol will be observed. Included in the $10 registration for Testing is a free education session with three speakers from the University of West GA's Wolf Wellness Lab on Diabetes general informatio...n, nutrition, and fitness. Those registering may also register for the Diabetes Friendly lunch for $10. Registration is on Eventbrite at this link and closes on March 17: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-ga-lions-club-conven All registrations must be made by March 17 in order to have enough test kits and lunches. There will be no on-site registrations.

Today this amazing girl celebrates her 16th birthday, quite a milestone for a Labrador. What a gift she is to my family. What a gift she has been to others through her work as a breeder for Southeastern Guide Dogs - 18 guide dog puppies. She has been an ambassador her entire life, and what an amazing one she has been. She even made me look like I knew what I was doing as we went to all manner of gatherings from Lions to Rotary to Pilot to schools to churches and made presenta...tions about guide dogs. She went to work at my office every day until she decided to retire a couple of years ago. She's flown on more airplane trips than many people. I loved it when we were deplaning, and I'd hear surprised voices saying "I didn't know there was a dog on this flight!" She was a happy traveler even when she and I made the 8 and 1/2 hour drive to Southeastern for board meetings. She has eaten in most every restaurant in Carrollton and many across the Southeast. She's gone to court and mediations and depositions and was always the most well behaved in the room. She's slower and grayer now, but that serene, regal woman is still there. Georgia senate is coming after injury victims...again You may know what it’s like to be the victim of injury or to lose someone you love to the negligence of another. You and your family live with the effects for a lifetime. Even when you get a recovery, it’s not like winning the lottery. Every few years some of our state legislators take aim at victims and decide to change the law. They couch it in terms of lowering insurance premiums or improving the Georgia business clima...te. Last time they did this was 2005. No one has seen their insurance premiums go down. In fact, they always go up. And Georgia isn’t a bad business climate. For the 6th year in a row, in 2019 Georgia was ranked the #1 state in the country for doing business by Area Development. Despite the facts, they are at it again this year with legislation in the state senate, Senate Bill 415. I and other lawyers are fighting hard to keep this legislation from passing, but the only thing that can really stop this kind of craziness is when voters like you speak up. I’m asking you to take less than 5 minutes and do two things: 1) Click the open states link and put in your address. Your state senator’s name will be the top one. Click his/her name (in blue). 2) Email or call your state senator and simply say My name is _______. My address is _________. I want you to know I strongly oppose senate bill 415. That’s it.

Several years ago I was privileged to go to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Today, on the 18th anniversary of that fateful day in our nation's history, I want to share a message the National Park Service (which oversees the Memorial) posted. "The story of United Airlines Flight 93 is a story of hope, courage, and unity. Eighteen years ago today, shortly after terrorists flew airliners into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pent...agon in Virginia, the 40 passengers and crew members on Flight 93 engaged in a battle in the sky over Pennsylvania. These heroes fought back, thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. In a field southeast of Pittsburgh, they sacrificed their lives and in doing so, they saved the lives of countless others. What I find most moving is that the people on that airplane voted on whether to take action. They made a democratic decision to fight back against terrorism, defending our freedom and preventing even further loss of life." See more
